Nothing personal Mahonri....I just don't like dentists...

I had a dentist that does a bonding on my front two teeth every so often (generally when I break it off for some random reason). He took the shot and would DRIVE that thing in. And THEN he'd start doing his stuff without my mouth being numb!!!!!

I was a dental assistant before I became a nurse. I worked for 2 different oral surgeons. The first one was a real piece of work he only used a certain dosage of a drug called Versed. No matter what your reaction, weight , whatever. You only got 1 dose. You would not believe the things that would come out of peoples mouths if the drug didn't fully work. Versed makes you forget what has happened but you can be fully "awake". Most cases were a wrestling match with the pt. He used wrist restraints.

The second DR I worked for was very good. It really was like "Oh this is how it's done." We used wrist restraints but they were hardly ever tested cause he kept the pts "under" like they needed to be.

I know that man is no longer in practice. After going to nursing school and learning a little about ethics I was amazed at his nerve. When I worked there I was 20 and newly married. You know full of myself cause I was a grown up and got to wear scrubs to work . He surrounded himself with people like that. I never even got my license until I worked for the other oral surgeon. When I worked for the 1st DR I took x-rays, removed sutures, started the pt on the gas, assisted during surgery ( mostly wrestling matches) and cleaned up after wards all with out a license.

I love Nitrous Oxide. I'm one of those who it affects almost instantaneously. Immediately after they put the mask on and when they start telling me it'll be a couple of minutes before I'll start to feel it, I start laughing hysterically, because it's the funniest thing I've ever heard. Every time I tell myself I'll try to act calm & cool, and every time I hear the dr and nurse laughing at me before I black out.
