Mahonri.....I have a question only a dentist could answer. :)

Well whats stopping ya? I think you would be a terrific oral surgeon!

Good bedside manners are hard to come by!

My pet peeves of dentists are they treated their patients like robots and when they get done with you, they have to yell NEXT!

Why dont dentists treat patients on Medicaid or Medicare? Are we too much of a risk for our insurance not to pay promptly? I dont know how many are there out there not getting the necessary dental care. Kids paid the high price for losing teeth.

Boy my dentist treats medicaid patients!!!! Those of us with other insurance can only go on Mondays (the only day he does regular insurance) the rest of the week is medicaid patients only. If we have an emergency and HAVE to go a different day the office is so packed you have to stand outside. I would have probably picked a dentist that didn't do medicaid just for that reason, but he is also the only dentist in my area that takes our military insurance. Plus, like I said, we like him.

None of ours in town would take us except for the health department and college students way out of town. you are very lucky! it would have been nice if dentists would take Medicaid patients once a week or once every two weeks.

Just wanted you to know that my ex-husband completely freaked out on nitrous oxide. He thought the dentist office had kidnapped me and was keeping him away from me and went berserk. I had to run through the office to find him and show him that I was ok, but they had to stop the procedure. I believe from then on, he only had numbing shots.

I remember one time that I sat in the dentist office and I had a bit too much of that gas that I was "under", blacked out? and then I came to when they decreased the gas and more oxygen. Weird, isn't it?

I had wisdom teeth pulled and I never had that episode ever again for a very long time.

All in all, gas aint so bad! At least it would numb my whole face!

I will never have nitrous oxide again either. I don't remember much about what happened. All I know is when I was leaving the dentist's office he was telling my mom it would be best for me to never have it again. I was a teen at the time. Same thing happened when I had my son. They gave me something to "take the edge off" and I guess I freaked out. My husband still refuses to talk about it. Must've been pretty bad. Glad I don't remember!!

Mahonri,

Sounds like you are an excellent dentist. There's so many of them who are so bad that it makes it miserable to go.

My dentist's office had one member who would use a screw clamp to hold suction in your mouth. That was miserable!! The screw clamp was painful, plus it got my tongue so dry that it felt like it filled up my whole mouth. Add to that the bite block so you couldn't possibly swallow to salivate, it was a miserable experience. I stayed as far away from that dentist as I could!!

My pediatric dentist was amazing though... he would give novacaine and it wouldn't hurt at all!

I didn't even know dentists would numb you before fillings and other procedures till I was 21 and used a new dentist !!!!

The dentist I had as a kid would just give me a piece of cotton to squeeze in my hand while he drilled and drilled. I just remember a lot of crying.

Oh jeez, I would cry too! I never heard of a dentist in my whole life that didnt do that!!!! I have to have some kind of numbing agent!
