At least this time they arrived in great shape.

Plus, the local USPS worker was very helpful, even staying past her closing time, to help me figure out where they were addressed to. I made it to that one before their closing, and the eggs were there.

You have all the luck .....
My father used to say, "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all!"

Well, good luck on your hatch!

Thanks Kathy! Actually many things had to go absolutely perfect for me to find their location [which had a later closeing time] , get there on time for them not to be sitting there till Monday, and get perfect, undamaged eggs to justify all that gas I burned. He always blesses me in so many ways!

So... what do you all do with the hundreds of chicks you hatch out? Do you all just have lots of acres to keep them on? Do you sell them?

Honestly I'm already nervous about what I'm going to do with the extra chicks beyond the two that I can keep.. and I'm only putting a dozen in the bator. (Well...first I'm nervous that I won't even get ONE to hatch out...)

Sigh.. time to move to a house with more than 1/2 an acre.

Most people sell them either as chicks or juveniles. There's some people around here who are looking to improve their breeding program who grow the chicks out then pick the best specimens to keep for breeding and sell or cull the rest.

Purebred chicks that are an in demand breed (for example BLRWs) are very easy to get rid of. Mutts or less in demand breeds (for example turkens) are much harder to sell.

There's some swaps coming up in the spring and summer and I'll be taking extra chicks and juveniles to it in the hopes that I will get rid of some of them. However, I have turken mutts... so ....

You can also advertise to sell your chicks on craigslist or your local feed store.

Some people eat the extra roos.

And some people make chicks to replace their old hens that have started to lay less.

And then there's people like me who have 4.4 acres and only 44 chickens

How I wish I had 4.4 acres that I was living on... (I have 7.7 acres that I rent out to a dairy farmer)... I realize I'll never be able to go live on it. Makes me sad.

But I'll be happy with the lot the Lord has given me and rejoice in the lives of my children as I watch them move through the trials and turmoils and joys and loves of life.

Life is short, and suddenly we're not here anymore.

Hmmm.....I LOVE my Brinsea Eco 20.

I don't have the humidity pump either, but have never had a problem with the humidity. What I do when I have to raise humidity is, besides filling all bins with hot water, I also add a wet hot wash cloth. The hot water helps raise humidity, then it pretty much stays put. If water needs to be added you can add hot water through the tiny hole using a very thin tube (the kind the hospitals use for IVs). I'm not sure what you mean about the gripping to open it part. I've never had a problem opening it.

I also have a Genesis HovaBator 1588. LOVE that one two. As a matter of fact I have both my Brinsea and Genesis full right now and can't wait for everyone to hatch.

The only one of my bators I don't like is my LG. I know some do great with it (including my 14 yr old son), but I can't figure it out and it makes me so nervous.

LOL... good question. We keep some and sell some. If you don't have a website set up, you can always sell on craigslist.org
