Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I was outside catching chickens, then decided I better check the date before loading the second cage.

I hope I didn't lead you to believe the solid colored chick is mottled; but since the other is, I figure there's at least a 50% chance it's split for mottled since her rooster must be. I've decided I do not want that recessive floating in my EE flock if there's lav also; decided to sell my Speckled Sussex crossed EEs to avoid it from them also.

Ok why is it that I can triple wrap eggs in bubble wrap, nestle them in packing peanuts, double box them, and the post office STILL manages to break my eggs, but I can throw three adult birds in one shipping container with no dividers, ship it all the way from Texas to Washington state and the egg that was laid in transit and rolled around unprotected among three sets of legs and beaks during the whole trip not only arrives unbroken, but can still hatch????

The egg that I took from the box when the lavs first got here just hatched!!!! I'll try to get a pic of it in the morning. So excited!!!

I am sure others have answered already.....but just tell them.. We have all dropped or had dropped eggs. If I had won the auction I would totally understand.

These are the instructions we used to make them.

Mine finished: I put linoleum on the floors for easy cleaning, and I cut half the top off and used hardware cloth so I can use it as a brooder.

Put em back under her. You can use them to see if she will stay on the nest. No sense using a new batch of eggs. Plus if she stays on them in a week you can candle and see if there are any growing....

Whoever wished me luck at work today, thank you.

Despite the power going out, the fire alarm, the highest ups arriving for an inspection while no other managers could be found... it was still a good day.

Oh and I forgot to mention the 10 inches of snow that fell.

Can I just tell you how bad the rest of my week was that TODAY felt fantastic?
