Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

While I'm waiting for my NORMAL eggs to show signs of life...

Took some photos of my Sandhill order of chicks that arrived today. I ordered 10 Iowa Blues and filled the box with other random pretties to put in my layer pen. Having never seen any of these breeds before and having a box full of funky colored chicks, I did my best to separate and label.

Iowa Blues:
(A couple pictured of the 10. They look a little rough, were playing in their food and being the smallest in the tank got walked upon.)

La Fleche (White and Black):
(OK, looking at the center one in the whites, that comb looks different though the feathers are coming in white...I've probably got them all categorized wrong, but hey, it's my best guesses. Will see when they grow up! The only whites I had in the order were La Fleche and White Spanish White Faceds and that doesn't look like a single comb to me.)

Got home and checked my hatcher. Not expecting much on this deal, but right on schedule I have a wellsummer pip. This line has been very constiant about 1 or 2 in each group piping on day 19, hatch on day 20. Any of the rest will pip tonoght or tommorow and be done hathcing buy early on sat. They just go a day early. My other line of wellies are constsantly pip on late 20 and hatch on late 21. The marrans err toward the 21 day hatch. I have only every had 1 or 2 on 22. So with a temp spike to 113 on day 7 I was not expecting any to hatch. Looks like like I should get at least 1 to hatch. It s pipped on time at least.

Finally! They waited until day 21 to make themselves known. Only 9 of the 15 made it to lock down (5 shipped eggs and 1 of mine didn't make it). Until this morning there was no sign of anything happening, but then 1 pipped, 2 pipped....by this evening 6 pipped. Within the last hour 4 have hatch! ***whew*** Can't wait until it's safe to open the bator!

Miracles do happen!! My little chick that had pipped through a vein HATCHED!! The inside of the shell where he pipped looks like a bullethole with blood splatter.. seems a little weak but looks good!! Looks like a black australorp.. so my Easter hatch is officially underway... Here's hoping every egg in lockdown hatches for all!!

OK, made it through the backlog of pages, THINK I have all the pullet/hen stinkeye entries. If you don't see yours on the page, PM me!

Contest ends tomorrow, 8am (CST).
