I'd planed to have banty Cochins as lawn ornaments and bug hunters in the vegie patch but after waking up to find one of the local hawks trying to break into the aviary to get my budgies (parakeets to you in the USA) I have decided my lawn ornaments wouldn't last long. The hawks are good mousers and also good at catching baby snakes and they are welcome to as many of those as they can catch. But not my birds!

I sort of have to opposite problem to you, I have a huge list of breeds I'd like just one or two of for the laying pen but don't want to bring in a whole heap of new birds because I don't want to bring in any diseases. Shipping in eggs to get one or two birds is expensive if they don't hatch.

Yes it is expensive. It is a chance you take with shipped eggs. Fortunately, NoseyChickens is only two hours from me, so I can go get them!!!!

I should be able to. They aren't laying all that well now. But that will be a while from now and much warmer, so I should be fine. I also have the buff polish too.

I have four little bantam Cochins in my brooder (with other chicks) right now, and one of them is FRIZZLED! I am SO jazzed!

I share your adoration of bantam Cochins, Debi!

I have 3 cockerels, two of which are twins: Frick and Frack.
This is Frick. Or maybe Frack.

This isn't a great photo, but here's Nugget, my bantam mottled Black Cochin, as of today.

Now I just need some bantam cochin PULLETS.

LOL. It's so true! But hey I made it the entire month of Jan without hurting myself. I guess nearly chopping off my finger making Christmas dinner gave me a break for the month.

That's why I have that title under my name!
