Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

That is one cute chickie, and congratulations!

I just watched one guy who pipped through a vein finally hatch, but he did not pop out and start flopping around; he sat in the bottom of his shell, exhausted. Now he is moving around, and I see a lot of gelatinous, unabsorbed yolk in his egg.

I may be paranoid, but is this guy shrink-wrapped? He's been sitting like this four hours. I can see his little beak moving inside the hole, and he is continuing to pip, but now I think I see some clear membrane stuck to him inside. This is a picture from a little bit ago:

I think I am stressing too much. I wish I was sleeping though this...

You need to go shopping or hiking or get ice cream. Just leave the house. We know exactly how you feel, and I wish I could say it gets easier, but for me I am still sitting here stressing over them.

So take a break, leave the house or drink a bottle of vodka.

Thank you. You are so right.
The one I thought was shrink-wrapped? He just hatched, the paranoid fool I am.
I don't know how you guy survive hatch after hatch. I'm giving myself an ulcer.

But, despite all of my internal conflicts, the chickies are doing great, and I have four hatched chicks in the incubator, chirping away! Three EEs and a Speckled Sussex.

4 hours is not long. It looks okay. Give it some time.

Best wishes!

Just got home from picking up my Lionheads and I have 1 Olive Egger hatched, 1 BCM zipping and 1 BCM x Game Zipping (my rocker from yesterday).

Bunnies and chickies for Easter this year!

Looks like the temps are holding steady again now.

I got to watch an epic struggle a bit ago. An Ameraucana had zipped and was struggling to pop the top. The blue Ameraucana hatchling staggered acoss the other eggs, plopped down on the zipped egg, and fell asleep.

Every few seconds the zipper would raise the sleeper up and wake him. Sleepy would chirp a few times, then drop his head back and fall back to sleep as the egg lowered back down. Finally the hatchling decided to find a more cooperative egg to sleep on, and the new chick popped his head out. I swear it gave the sleeper a stinkeye.

The latest chick had no white on its throat. [Later prooved to have a white chest] I wanted to mark the black OE, and thought of Wolftracks using nail polish applied through a vent hole. Trouble is I do not have nail polish, must be fresh out.

Then I spotted a bottle of polypaint used to write or draw on fabric sitting next to the bator. I had used it to mark the bottom sides of that clear plastic tray so I could see the water reservoirs. I dabbed some on a flex straw, lowerd it through a vent hole, and I now have a black OE with a white slash on its back.

You seriously need to step away from the bator for a little bit
