I'm starting to think Day 20 should be hatching day. Everyone seems to hatch majority on day 20...not just on the easter hatch, but other hatch a long threads. My lone ranger isn't doing anything...no movement, chirping, nada. But I told myself I'll not worry until tomorrow.
On another interesting note...I went to TSC today to buy some feed. They actually had chicks there for once. This couple with grandkids were buying chicks, and apparently had no idea at all what they were doing. They asked as they were buying them, is there a special food they eat? Why do you have lights on them? Oh we need lights? Can they drink and eat out of dog bowls? etc. So clearly they didn't do any homework at all. The worse part the guy there said, "Yeah as long as you have lights on them they'll be fine". He didn't say where the brooder box should be, draft-free etc., and didn't say anything about temps at all. And there was a dead chick in the brooders that the other were pecking at/eating (thats what it looked like). And when the lady asked if it was ok, they guy said...nah its just sleeping. It was clearly not sleeping and was dead. I don't know much...not nearly as much as you all..but I know that the couple knew nothing about chicks and the guy selling them didn't either. kinda made me sad for the chicks. I wonder how many just die because they're popular at easter.
The two zippers are still not done zipping, but an OE fired up and hatched in just a minute or two. Supposed to be split to a Lav Ameraucana, but though wet has a silvery cast to its down as if it is Lav.
Nah, scratch the silvery cast............................ it's a slimer with bits of membrane on its back and wings.
Had to paint mark it while wet; one Ameraucana finished zipping and another one started zipping and already hatched............................ too many wet chicks to keep straight for long....................... shoulda went ahead and built that divider.
I'm not even gonna TRY to catch up on all TWENTY FIVE pages since I left for work. But I came home to see chicks. 14 so far. I have BCM, Lav orp, Mille Fluer cochins, pumpkin hulseys, Blue Orps, and an EE out. I have salmon fav pips, but so far nothing on my white ameraucanas. However they were all alive on day 18 so figure they'll just hatch when they are supposed to lol. I have tons of pips and zips currently!
<*grumbling*> I am not going to bed yet. I heard cheeping in those eggs, dagnabbit. I don't have to get up early for work, or for anything, actually. Although, if I sleep, I MIGHT wake up to chicks, nu?

I've only got the 3 White Ameraucanas in my bator, but their the only variety making it to lockdown that have not pipped at least one egg..................... must be the only ones that can count to 21.
