Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I sorta-candled when I shifted things around to clean the Brinsea last night. I don't think any of the shipped turkey eggies made it through shipping, but it is rather early to tell. I got them from Bargain, and her birds are sooooooooooo pretty. I am hoping at least one hatches and makes it. I NEED another tom. Or hen. Or TEN.

I loaded 12 new as I emptied 12 spots while candling at lockdown on noon last Wed.

Then, thinking Wed is a bad hatch day for me, I loaded 16 more at 10 p.m. last night.

The plan will be to load 14 eggs every Sunday for small, continuous, weekly hatches for awile.

I wish! I too have hatching fever extraordinairre!

I might use those tips too. I've been going everywhere with vicks up my nose. lol

Nose and sinuses are clear- it's bronchitis. I'm on an inhaler and coughing up my toes...very nice.

I'm on Tessalon and codeine syrup...been praying for poor Steve and caught the darned stuff!

I'm on the mend...put on pants today instead of pulling my boots on over my jammies to let the birds out. I was so stuck in bed I didn't interfere in the hatch much at all

I put up a poll for the Flapper Contest finally! Go vote so I can send off some Paint eggs to the winner!

I did hatch some Paints for this hatch...but I think a Faverolles came out with Paint markings, too, so I'm at a loss as to how that happened or what to do with it...I don't think I knew I was setting a Fav?!? No extra toes, but looks like it has feathered legs, and NONE of my Ameraucanas has so much as a bit betwixt its toes!

I'm corn-fused.

Your prayers were appreciated and I'm now praying for you. I slept 14 hours last night into today. It was needed, but sure messing up my schedule! I woke up to a returned cough, but its passed again already without using any meds.

Sounds like you have a gene for feathered legs floating in both a roo and pullet in the Ams........................... this is, unfortunatly, not all that unheard of in the Ameraucanas.................................. and I have to wonder how many quietly cull such chicks without mention of it publicly. On the other hand, is there a chance a roo went calling to another pen?

Laree I don't know what breed of turkey you are looking for but I had all six of my BR eggs hatch that Lotsapaints sent to me. You could check and see if Denny has more eggs if you are looking for the BR's

Hatching results so far ( I had to pull some of them out of the bator they were very crowded!

4 Cuckoo Marans
9 Welsummers
12 Buckeyes
5 Mottled Houdans
12 Blue Silkies
10 White Silkies (Ithink)
9 Buff Silkies (Ithink)
10 what appear to be partridge silkies (they are chipmunked)

so a total of 71 so far out and in the brooder

I say I think on the white and buff silkies because a few of them looked buff, then white... so I did my best to tell them apart LOL!

Several more pips in the bator and some chicks still in because I just grabbed as many as I could so the humidity wouldn't drop!

Will update later!

Thanks for the prayers!

It's not at all likely, since I have the pens covered, and the only feathered legs out at the farm are the banty Cochins, the banty Faverolles, the Silkies and the d'Uccles. Because of the way the pens are covered, there's no infiltration- with the exception of more than one bird escaping its pen at a time. It came from a light brown egg, which one Paint girl lays (despite everyone being homozygous for a pea comb, drat it all!).

I have Blehm Blacks, a Blehm Lav, and all of my Paint stock in there- I suppose if it happens again, I'll know there's a foible in that pen. I'll have to pull that girl despite her perfect markings. She's my favorite of all of the Paint pullets, so I've kept her despite the egg color. I can't have her throwing 2 major faults, though.

I still wonder if it's not a fluke from the Faverolles...how odd.

There you go Laree and you could probably pick them up instead of having them shipped! Even better!

Since I'm not participating in the contests, I'm not posting on the spread sheet. An FYI may be helpful for some though, so:

Only 30 of 84 went to lockdown; the cause was fertility problems, and 1 early quitter.

Only 19 hatched, 18 lived, and many of those were helped. The first apparent problem was a humidity spike that I failed to notice and get under control soon enough during hatching.

The forced air's water reservoirs went dry twice during the first 18 days, and the second apparent problem was some of those went to lockdown too dry. I also discovered 1 Ameraucana clear that I had missed at lockdown, 2 OEs clear and 1 early quitter that simply could not be candled [all 3 were shipped eggs], and 1 Ameraucana several days behind in developement for some reason. [It was alive late on day 21, but looked to need several more days to have successfully hatched. Whatever the reason for its slow developement, I don't want to be giving one egg 22 or more days when the bulk were early.]

Even through my codeine-cough-syrup-induced haze and giddy lack of oxygen, I can see that that is a must have!

Want!!

Get well soon. [I recommend teassalon perles

To everyone other than Renee, she recommended the above medication to me when codeine cough syrup failed to work. The only thing before that was working was two #5 Vicodins, swallowed with a tablesoon of tussin, every 5 hours...................... way too addictive

Codiene cough syrup make me puke, so last time I got sick, I told the doc I'd rather cough than puke. He tells me...why didn't you ever say so...and prescribed vicodin cough syrup. I felt so much better...you should try it next time!
