Oh did I mention I have ANOTHER broody?

I don't want to see ONE more broody this year!

Broody count at roost time last night:
Black Jersey Giant sitting x 3 days.
BCMarans sitting x 3 days.
Black Silkie #1 sitting X God only knows how long.
Black Silkie #2 sitting x 5 days.
SLW brooding 8 chicks.
Black Silkie #3 brooding 4 chicks.
BLRW brooding ..... nope, I took her 3 chicks away from her.

I'm actually kindof excited about this broody... I just had a banty hatch out and then about 10 days later my GLW oh and my phoenix, too. The day they did that my cuckoo marans and my speckled sussex went broody. Then the speckled sussex decided she wanted to prance around outside all day and then sit on the nest only at night, so I gave all the eggs to the marans... who then trampled 2 eggs and made an unholy mess in the nest box. Today both decided sitting was too much work. Then my Jersey Giant decided to sit. Someone's going to hatch out these darned eggs! Even if it's me!

Well my broodies are making up for my miserable Easter hatch. 6 new chicks since last night. 4 White Ameraucnas, 1 Black Cochin, AND my very first Buff Laced Polish from my breeding group!!!

I think I still have about 5 eggs left under them. I have 2 little cochins co-broodying! Unfortunately we are having a seriously issue with squirels stealing our eggs and I'm afraid to leave the babies outside. So they are inside in the brooder with the Easter chicks.

I got eight brahmas due the 10th of May or so - in incubator. Got two broodies sitting on straw but nowhere to put them for hatching! May well put one in the brooder when the chicks hatch - she is bombproof and as long as they make noise she'll do her job, she's a fab hen.

So...getting the worst hatch award is terrible! I'm having constant anxiety. I got my eggs on friday and sat...was gonna set sat. night, but decided to put a fan in. Then I had issues getting my incubator stable. I put the eggs in early this morning and keep checking the temps. I double and triple checked how to incubate with forced air. I'm literally having anxiety pains..becuase what if I ruin this hatch too?? All these beautiful eggs ruined? I couldn't take it, if that were the case. I've got 4 thermometer and 2 hygrometers in there. Ughhh...sooooo stressed about it! ANd on top of it I got more eggs coming and not enough room. So I'm building an incubator. That is a lot more work than I thought!! I'll stack em until I get it finished and stable.

Very funny post! I have a great visual of your Lubies hand in hand with the gnome.

And BHep - "Just this evening my 8year old DD said "Mom, I wish I had a chicken belly & wings so I could hatch an egg" My four year old son often wishes he could hatch out of an egg. Your DD sounds very sweet!

She is.. thanks. She carries her favorites around tucked in her jacket or shirt. Sometimes I see their little heads stick out and look at me as to say "help mmeeeee"

But when they see her they come running and hop up in her lap, so they must like her
