Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Funny that ... my boys like to carry the hens inside their shirts and say they are "pregnant". I am quite sure the hens don't like it, but I am happy the hens put up with the boys. I like to think they are developing their nurturing side and will be wonderful fathers someday.

And then theres my 3 year old who likes to chase my flock yelling here chickies!!! and tries to grab them. They're terrified of her. She just gets sooooo excited.

Well, it'll take at least 2 days to get here, and 1 day to sit for after shipping. And I do have some room for about 8 more eggs in my incubator...I think it'll be ok. Its just that the seller who sent me the silkie eggs that didn't hatch is sending me some more to replace the ones that didn't hatch (even though it was mostly my fault). She is sending hers today too. My incubator should be complete tomorrow. Then I just need to make adjustments and stuff which should take a few days. I'm just soooo scared they'll not hatch.

The only way to get better at it is to keep doing it. I learn something every time I incubate. I know that most of the reasons that the eggs don't hatch are mine, but sometimes it has nothing to do with what you did or didn't do that they don't hatch. Just remember to breathe and ask questions if you aren't sure!

Your hatch rate will get better each time.

Thank you for saying that...Maybe I will keep trying. I have been feeling like such a failure. Your words were a shot in the arm.

its TOO BAD that I did not get any good pics for the funniest place a hen lays contest.

Today, I brought out a carton to collect hatching eggs, set it down and went to check on the broody and then went back to it to see a hen laying an egg RIGHT IN THE CARTON... bwa ha ha ha... wish I could train them!
and wish I had a pic. No camera on hand in that moment, of course
