No this makes you exquisitely sarcastic...that is a complement btw. We consider sarcasm delightful. I pulled my daughter in here from her office so I could read your blog entry out loud to her. Enjoyed it immensely.

Update from New Year's Hatch. Not only are my chicks big bad chickens now...they are parents. Roosters are black orpingtons from Nancy (bargain) and hens are splash marans and buff orps I bought off ebay.

Bad day today. I have 2 chicks (different broody mammas) that hatched the same day. I put the small timid mom in a protected box but the other mom I didn't. She's mean and in charge and took care of 3 chicks last winter in subzero temps out in the coop. I figured she knew what she was doing. Came home today and her chick is dead. She's trying to steal the 3 older chicks that are under my banty now. There's been some fighting amongst them. TSC doesn't have chicks in (they say maybe tomorrow) but absolutely won't break the "rule of 6" for me (so they say on the phone).

Maybe I'm reading too much into this Momma and chickens don't "grieve" but this one's certainly sad in my eyes.

SCG - sorry to hear about your broody momma. I have two broodies right now and I am worried it will be a world war out there in the yard. I always seem to end up with one timid broody whose babies practically starve as they try to stay out of the way of the bossy mama.
Just curious, but for those of you who love naked necks so much...do you also like the showgirl silkies? I have one and I find her just adorable. I find it odd that so many people are anti-silkie or anti - nn. I think the only chickens I don't like are the ones with either aggressive or flighty personalities.

Dibs on those FCBMS!!! I'll have to pay you in pennies though.

I will GIVE you one that has a habit of picking her own back feathers... she regularly lays a nice big dark egg too.

She is just plain UGLY!
