How cute! Is the little stinker a boy? The one that keeps butting the emu?

I asked "what do you think about Emu?" His response " did you get them already?"

He knows me all to well. I think he was shocked when I said I hadn't got any, I was just thinking about it. My kids are driving me crazy with "come-onnnn they are soooo cute" blah blah blah..... I know they are cute when they are little, but what happens when they are 5-6 foot tall and run 45 mph??? I think I would have to spend a GREAt amount of time with them to ensure they stay friendly. Anyway..... I found a farm about an hour away that sells eggs & chicks. I MAY take a vist there with my kids to learn more about them.

Mary, besides the grand daughter that lives with me I had one of the others here last night. I had to play the video a minimum of 20 times. LOL My 14 year old son even came out when he heard the girls giggling, so I played it 4 or 5 times for him. We all crack up when he gets his little head our and bounces. LOL He's adorable.

My poor husband wasn't thrilled with me bugging him for chickens. Took years after we got married to finally break him down. OK well I came home with a broodie and 2 chicks and 2 Guinea hens one day, so he went in the yard and started building. Then the broodie lost both of her chicks. By then I had brought home a bunch of WCBP. My poor Dom made so much noise and searched high and low for her chicks. After a couple of days, Bill suggested the feedstore and some babies for her.

I was shocked, but had to tell him to wait until the next week, because the 25 Pullets from MPC that were on sale would be there then. I almost ducked. LOL He just smiled and said " I figured!" Then he went shopping and came back and built the nicest brooder I had ever seen. I had great coops at that house, but when we lost it, he went back for them and they were gone. The ones I have are safe, but they were in the works when he died, so nothing is finished. Nothing looks like the ones from that last flock at all.

I used to tell Bill that I was trading eggs. lol I'd get eggs in the mail 2-3 times a week. When he finally asked if I was about finished hatching, I laughed and rolled my eyes. Two weeks later he bought me the Sportsman. LOL I have always wanted Emu. I used to research them a lot even back to before we got married. Kind of glad I didn't put a lot of work into that since I was going to do it as a business, but I doubt it would have come to that. I did tell him when we finally got property I wanted some. He just said "Please, wait till we buy it and don't try raising them in this backyard." I think if I ever do get that property (not looking good) I'll have to name one William. On a sad note, his Wheaten Marans roo died last night I guess. Couldn't find him to put him up, but this afternoon I found him behind the coop with the babies who went out 2 weeks ago. Regal was a sweety. Bill just thought he was so cool looking, so we kept him. I hope he has chicks hatch from my hen. The only other one that shocked me that he liked was my black Silkie. I was getting rid of extra roos and he said "Don't get rid of that one. He cracks me up." So 8Ball is still here.

I think getting birds past my husband was part of the fun. I get eggs now and no one to get excited with. I wonder what he would have said if I had gotten an Emu egg. Actually no if. If he was alive, I'd have one at least to hatch and sell. LOL

Boys have a bullseye on the head girls don't. When we bought this baby, the breeder thought it was a girl and she still does. Her husband mentioned he thought he saw a bit of a bullseye on the head. I researched and started to think it might be a boy so I posted pics. Not many emu experts around here but people think it is a boy.

BTW, for whomever asked, both goats are female Tennessee Fainting Goats. Louise just likes to head butt more than Thelma.

Wow I didn't know that male emus are the ones to sit on the eggs. I thought that your link was going to go to the Rooster Cogburn place near Picacho Peak.

Yep, my other two eggs are being sat on by a broody male Emu right now, due to hatch in two days! Wish us luck!

Tennessee Fainting Goats are supposed to be much easier to keep than other breeds. They startle easily and "faint" so they learn to avoid doing the things that make it happen, like testing fences and jumping on car hoods. Let's hope!

Got some photos of the last puppy I still have from my January litter. Thought I'd share some photos of the little guy. This is "Davis" at 10 weeks of age. Such a pretty day for some photos. The grass is just starting to turn green under there!
