Mary, besides the grand daughter that lives with me I had one of the others here last night. I had to play the video a minimum of 20 times. LOL My 14 year old son even came out when he heard the girls giggling, so I played it 4 or 5 times for him. We all crack up when he gets his little head our and bounces. LOL He's adorable.
My poor husband wasn't thrilled with me bugging him for chickens. Took years after we got married to finally break him down. OK well I came home with a broodie and 2 chicks and 2 Guinea hens one day, so he went in the yard and started building. Then the broodie lost both of her chicks. By then I had brought home a bunch of WCBP. My poor Dom made so much noise and searched high and low for her chicks. After a couple of days, Bill suggested the feedstore and some babies for her.
I was shocked, but had to tell him to wait until the next week, because the 25 Pullets from MPC that were on sale would be there then. I almost ducked. LOL He just smiled and said " I figured!" Then he went shopping and came back and built the nicest brooder I had ever seen. I had great coops at that house, but when we lost it, he went back for them and they were gone. The ones I have are safe, but they were in the works when he died, so nothing is finished. Nothing looks like the ones from that last flock at all.
I used to tell Bill that I was trading eggs. lol I'd get eggs in the mail 2-3 times a week. When he finally asked if I was about finished hatching, I laughed and rolled my eyes. Two weeks later he bought me the Sportsman. LOL I have always wanted Emu. I used to research them a lot even back to before we got married. Kind of glad I didn't put a lot of work into that since I was going to do it as a business, but I doubt it would have come to that. I did tell him when we finally got property I wanted some. He just said "Please, wait till we buy it and don't try raising them in this backyard." I think if I ever do get that property (not looking good) I'll have to name one William. On a sad note, his Wheaten Marans roo died last night I guess. Couldn't find him to put him up, but this afternoon I found him behind the coop with the babies who went out 2 weeks ago. Regal was a sweety. Bill just thought he was so cool looking, so we kept him. I hope he has chicks hatch from my hen. The only other one that shocked me that he liked was my black Silkie. I was getting rid of extra roos and he said "Don't get rid of that one. He cracks me up." So 8Ball is still here.
I think getting birds past my husband was part of the fun. I get eggs now and no one to get excited with. I wonder what he would have said if I had gotten an Emu egg. Actually no if. If he was alive, I'd have one at least to hatch and sell. LOL
