Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Well, we are now the LARGEST HATCH a LONG group ever assembled on BYC.... see if you all can recruit more peeps in the next 5 days. We'll have a big party.

If you are a part of this hatch and your name isn't listed in Post#1, please PM me and I'll add you.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read all of post #1 if you are participating in any of the contests.

I'm praying Kathyinmo and Laree will help out in keeping us organized and up to date.

Once you know how many eggs you'll be setting let me know, PM me, we need to list it by April 4th at 11:59:59PM so that you can be eligible and for the best hatch rate contest and for this hatch, you'll need to set at least 20 eggs... (for New Years we allowed less eggs, being dead of winter and all)

Everyone who's volunteered prizes remind me once again.... (sorry I'm a busy dentist, father, husband and urban desert chicken farmer.) and lately, I've been suffering from a condition known as CRS. {Can't Remember STUFF!}

Remind me who is running the weekly contests while we wait for

Week #1
Week #2 and
Week #3

and if we don't have them, will there be volunteers?... I'm pretty certain that two of the weeks have been spoken for...so speak up again.

Read post #1 to review the contests that are already set in stone.

Thanks for all of your help and for making this the very best Hatch a Long BYC has ever seen.

Well I imagine more than 3,000 will be set. If everyone were setting as many as me there would be over 12,000 eggs.

... and that's a whole lot a chicken!

I put about 200 in March 22, and I am putting about 100 into the hatcher for lockdown tomorrow, so I will only have room for about 100 this time.

So do you run a chick brokerage firm out of NV,MO? You are hatching so many chickens you'll end up in the Bushwacker Museum!

The Bushwacker Museum is in an old jail, too! Cool !

I don't keep all the chicks .... no, no, no! I just hatch them! Most are sold in advance and will be shipped as day old chicks.

Will they know how to respond to the words "Clean-up on aisle 3"?

Oh, dear. You may be laughing, but I would be crying!

Well, I've actually been paranoid about that - but I wanted to practice with real eggs. So, I've been practicing candling, and as terrible as this might seem, if I see any development, they are going in the compost pile. They've been in the fridge for over two weeks, so I'm hoping that killed any chance....

Then again, maybe I'll hatch them out and send them to work down at the local IGA...

Now, y'all know I hatched Trader Joe's fertile grocery eggs, right? I have four White Leghorns in my yard right now, a cockerel and 3 pullets, from the Mahonri NYD Hatch.

I have heard of people hatching Trader Joe's with good result, but I have eggs coming for this weekend of breeds I'd like to start with.

My grocery store eggs are "Nature's Promise: Organic Cage Free" eggs... PLEASE tell me no one has hatched any of these.....
