The Icelandics in the bator look good, and I'll candle the turkey eggs tomorrow evening.

I'm making a run to Sterling to drop off some EE's and pick up a variety of birds, some for me and several for others. It's about 180 miles so a 3.5 hour drive each way in good weather, it's spitting snow now so it could be a fun day in the pass.

I won't be online when you all set your eggs but I'll check in when I get home and get the new chicks settled to see what everyone's starting with

Hurley... have you told us how many you are setting?

There are lots of regulars here who still haven't reported in as to how many eggs they are setting.... See post #1 and go to Laree's little helper sites....

I think I have a pretty good guess on what breeds will hatch first.

But, to guess how many will hatch ...... hmmmm, that's a tough one!

I do not understand Laree's graph form. How can I choose .... for example .....
1st to hatch: Icelandic
2nd to hatch: Icelandic
3rd to hatch: New Hampshire

Looking at the result page, I am confused with 1 chick, 0 chick, etc.

PS ..... Laree ..... It is New Hampshire, not New Hampshire RED. There is no "Red" in the name.

Sooo Today is my anniversary and my hubby said he would buy me a new bator. I was so existed because I have a cheep styrofoam one. So when he asked me what type of one I wanted i was like ummmm..........

Soooo ya I need help. What type do I ask for. Now keep in mind that I am not one of the people that hatch out hundreds of chicks. Only like 50 a year. Maybe 100 if you count the quail. Oh and we are not super rich but it is a 7th anniversary present so you know like maybe $250 to $300 at most though I am a cheepy so the cheeper the better but still with quality. Any Ideas?

I haven't posted my numbers yet because I am going to candle the turkey eggs (I set six and I will post that number when I post the chicken eggs). I will see if any of those eggs need to be pulled and then set the 23 from CC. If I have room to stack a couple from my girls I am going to put those in. So I am not exactly sure what the total is going to be until after they are set.
It was a gorgeous day here yesterday. It actually reached almost 70 degrees. Of course it is supposed to snow tomorrow.

Well my auto turner has decided to stop working so I have been hand turning. I will have to contact Brinsea and get another one on the way. Not a big deal but it figures. I have got to get NYD "babies" integrated in with the flock. I have had them in a separate coop for a couple of weeks right next to my other chickens. No big squabbles but I need to get them all together. I think I am going to make the youngsters come out of their coop today. I have been leaving the doors open for them to come out when I get home from work but if they come out, they don't wander far and then go back in. I figure I have only three weeks to get this done (so I can move the ones in the brooder out to the small coop the NYD youngsters are in) so I can free up the brooder for the new chicks. Kathy thank you so much for posting how to make that easy peasy brooder. I might have to break out the saw and hammer and build just in case.
