Mwaaahaaaahaaaahaaaa! I have drawn my friend into the fold! She started out saying, "No, I don't want chickens. I just don't want any. I like yours, but I don't want any chickens. No, I don't want chickens." I countered every argument she could articulate (lazy, wants to continue to sit on butt all the time, maybe Maggie only likes MY chickens and it was an aberration, cleaning coop, what about stray cats, what about noise and chicks, she'd have to buy feed, where would she find feed, yadda yadda yadda).
I kept proposing three hens, no chicks to brood, I put up the coop, secure the 6 X 10 dog run, provide feeders, waterers, obviously no roosters, feed is cheaper than dog food, come on you live in Paso Robles where there are feed stores just about everywhere, etc.
Suddenly, she said, "But I would want four not three. Three is an odd number. They need buddies. I want two regular sized hens and two bantam hens. I get to name them, right, they wouldn't be any of your flock I already know?"
Score!!!
This won't happen right away, but before Summer is over, I'll get her all set up.
She kinda suggested she would take two of my TJs White Leghorns, but I need to think on that a bit... I would like her to have really friendly hens... and I'm not sure Leghorns are idea for that. But, since I don't particularly care for white eggs, and SHE DOESN'T MIND THEM, that might be the two LF hens she'll get. They aren't laying yet... but probably will be by the time I get her all set up.
