Good morning! Well I am NOT going to be able to read this whole thread to catch up that is for sure. I do have a pic for the broody contest part though! I got home from a weekend away and they were hatched. I actually think I heard them on Thursday up there....so I ended up with 12. There were 13 but one must have perished over the weekend. They hatched up in the ceiliing of my coop and it was a riot crawling around up there trying to catch them yesterday! I thought they were hatching next weekend...never can tell with those broodies! Here they are:

I will be letting them out of the cage on Wednesday so they can start roaming around. That is my favorite part about hatching; seeing the proud Mama showing off her babies!

OK we finally got power last night at about midnight.
But my DH had went and got a generator earlier and bless his heart he hooked up the TV and you guessed it

the incubators. The temps were down to 80 degrees but I wont worry yet. I have poults and my very first peas that are hatching this seek-end. I am a little concerned over them.

But it could have been much worse.

I candled my 39 eggs for the Easter hatch last night only had 1 in-fertile all the rest looked to be developing normally - so it looks as if 'ol RJ my big red rooster did his job now its up to me to do mine to get a high % hatch rate, huh?

I candled last night and had to toss 27 due to blood rings or clears.. Does anyone know what causes the blood rings? If everything that is left hatches, I'll be at 60%... sure am jealous of those who have 100% hatches right now... my PO must have a special process for hatching eggs.. maybe they used to run the scrambled egg section of the kitchen detail when they were in the army.. that would explain things a little...

Ok, I think. He and the dog that bit him were having their morning bark/goodiliegoodilie -off.

I could tell he was hurting, because the goodilies are followed by (what sounds like) a yelp of pain. I don't think expanding his chest like that is so great for his stitches, so I am keeping the dogs inside today.

He has water, and I am going to go get some penicillin, but I am at a loss what to feed him. His crop was MAJORLY ruptured, so I don't want to give him hard feed. Maybe bread soaked in olive oil?

Yes soft foods. You might could even soak his regular feed so it is a mash instead of hard? If you give the antibiotics might want to give him some yogurt too as a probiotic? Just some thoughts.

Laree, I was thinking like yogurt, scrambled eggs, maybe that would be easy to digest?? Poor guy.
