Well my three broodies in the broody coop are doing a GREAT job so far! The rest of my flocks are all being slow pokes and barely giving up any eggs. I'm thinking of REALLY limiting my laying flock and just concentrating on my breeding flocks. I have way too many eating eggs laying around all the time, and living in the middle of nowhere it's not that easy to sell them.

Sad news tonight however. I took our old golden lab Bailey in to the vet today. Just a check up to acess his quality of life and pain levels. I felt we were nearing the time to give him a peaceful end. The vet said that "would not be the wrong decision to make". He has had back and arthritis problems for a few years, he's 13. He's lost 10 pounds in the last year. He has lost so much muscle tone. The vet feel he most likely has Cushings (sp?) due to the amount of muscle loss and the fact that even his head and face have lost muscle tone. She also thinks due to some symptoms, his low heart rate and slow breathing there may be something worse underlying all of that, possibly cancer. But did not feel the need to do any bloodwork at this point (never a good sign). She bumped his meds WAY up. 2 1/2 50mg tablets of tramadol 2x a day (use to be 10 mg 2x a day) and 50mg of rimadyl 2x a day (was 25mg 2x a day). Again NO blood work before upping the meds, because What's the point? I knew this was comig, but it is still so hard to hear. Now I just have to decide when to let him go.

Good News out of the vet visit- (it's the military base vet, far cheaper than civilian) She is willing to treat ANY goat, chicken, or duck I may need seen. And our puppy Sadie is very healthy doing well and did not freak out getting her shots today. She's 11 weeks old and 25 pounds!

ETA: My broody rouen has managed to cover all the eggs under her - about 20. And she is a hissin fool. Til she realized I wasn't going to take her eggs and I was just talking to her. She is so pretty!!!

I still have two more to go. There are so many incredible people here, how are we supposed to pick three??? My first one was paying forward a members incredibly loving heart.

I'm glad that it will be an ongoing thing... there are tons of folks that I could nominate for BYC Spirit. Lots that I will nominate as BYC Friends and a goodly number who are true BYC Educators.

What a great community we have here of people who help people. What a bless group we are.

I just did my second one. I don't really like the person, but I do admire their contributions to this site.

This is Angel, a bantam EE with two of the six living chicks she hatched. The others are, of course, tucked underneath her feathers. (She hatched 8, but two met with misadventure before I got out to the coop in the mid-morning. Everything is now all secure for the little family.)
