Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Just my .o2 but...fitting in is highly overrated. If I fit in - that would mean I was pretty similar to "them" and I obviously chose to be different because I wanted to think on my own. My children don't "fit in" either. And I think the best gift I can give them is the ability to think independently and choose their paths rather than being swept along by the mainstream. Okay, soapbox is stashed under the desk again and we can get back to chickenology.

We have a pip!
I went down this morning to move the Icelandic eggs from KathyinMo to the hatcher and one had already pipped.

I have 14 eggs in the hatcher, 3 with aircells that goes down both sides of the egg

(The purple line is how they started, the green is what they look like now) and another that the aircell stretched down the side of the egg. All 4 have movement so I'm hopeful

I always have a few that look like this when I get shipped eggs. It is weird, but mine have hatched so I guess it is ok for them to be like that.

That's a pretty common thing with shipped eggs, but so long as you watch closely at hatch, they usually do fine.

You will want to check if they are slow to pip compared to others, because sometimes they can't reach to pip when the membrane is pulled away like that- that said, I've hatched many that looked just like that.

I have had such rotten luck with shipped eggs so this time, I bought (semi)local. I had my daughter pick up eggs in Phoenix and bring them to me since she was coming to visit. This means I had to make the decision to set the eggs - or to wait more than 10 days in in order to be setting eggs when you all did for this Easter hatch. I made the easy decision and set the eggs early.
I locked down eggs today. I can hardly contain my excitement!
As they hatch, would you like to see pix right away or would you all rather I wait and post them when your chicks are hatching?
