I'm glad I'm not the only one! I have been feeling like mine must be all dead. All 36 eggs are still just sitting there. No noise, no movement.

Thank you for the encouragement!!!

Good Morning!

I will do the official countdown for those of us who have eggs just sitting in the incubator.

Congrats on the baby girl to Ms. FuzzyButts!

I can't remember who else I was going to comment on because my morning coffee hasn't hit my brain yet.

To all of you who are watching eggs just sit in a quiet still incubator, I am in your club and don't get discouraged because it is only day 19! We still have a lot of hours of staring at stillness ahead of us!

My Dorking egg is in lock down. It was wriggling when I looked so hoping my only remaining Easter egg hatches.

Could be interesting if it does though... I currently have orphan kittens in my brooder sleeping under my Eco-Glow... don't think they will make good companions for a chick!

I have another 7 eggs developing due a week later but I told DH I can't possibly raise a lone chick so I will have to buy a few chicks as company if my egg hatches and he said ok.

I've already dug out the old heat lamp so it's ready when I (hopefully) need it.

Last night, after ball practice, one of our Ameracauna bantams pipped. So, I proceeded to get the brooder ready. At 5:30 this morning I looked in and he looked to be just starting to zip. I went up and took a shower and came back down for a cup of coffee. In the 10 minutes it took to shower, he zipped and had a foot out. Got the kids up and they got to see him come out b4 school. I didn't see any other pips yet though.

Incidentally I went out to fire up the grill b4 ball practice last night only to find that there's a hatch in progress in there. It seems a robin thought that was a pretty good spot. I guess I can use the broiler for a while.

Mahonri, I decided to increase my humidity on this hatch because of chicks getting stuck and my air cells have been pretty large on all of my hatches even though I have been keeping my humidity between 40 and 45% for the first 18 days. If you have large air cells, I don't think it would hurt to increase humidity to 70%. They are not going to drown if they have plenty of room to breathe. Like Chookschick said, they are not going to absorb humidity, it will just keep them from drying out more.

I believe 50... they have them on their website for $129.99.. http://www.brinsea.com/prod-EcoGlow_50_Chick_Brooder-256.aspx The website says they will be available mid-May. That's a little pricey for me. I think I am going to build me a brooder like what KathyinMo has on her page, https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=31282-brooder and build Flexwatt into the floor tied to a thermostat.. I'll post pics as I go..

They will? Yay! I love mine and have been thinking I need more and wishing they had a larger size so that is great news.

They didn't happen to say how many chicks it will brood did they?

I agree- I don't exaggerate when I say I get the humidity as high as I can for confinement- fogged windows aren't unusual. I don't use a hygrometer anymore. I think in that machine I would use a wad of wet paper towel, loosely arranged for greater surface area. Anytime there's a lower humidity than what the fan will dry, you risk sticking far more than in a still air incubator.

In the Brinsea, you can open it and examine whether there seems to be a sticking issue without risking the other eggs, because the unit recovers so quickly. It's worth a look to know whether those kids are stuck. But that being said, the ones not yet pipped will not suffer sticking until they pip if you have a sticking issue. I'd check and up the humidity if the pips are sticking.

Are we supposed to be in lockdown? Really???? Awww, crud! I just got out of lockdown with guineas. *sigh* ok...can I stick em under the broody instead? Or is that cheating since I didn't plan that from the start?
