Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

kvmommy, where are you? Perhaps someone will have chicks to share after this mad hatch!

I'm in Gales Ferry, CT. I don't think anyone is even remotely near me.

I want more chicks! And I live for the hatching. Its a lot of work with a still air LG with no turner, but its soooo worth it. I get sooo excited when I hear the chirping and seeing the pipping. Then its a race to the finish. Watching them grow up! Its the best!! Except when I have a possible 5% to 0% hatch rate.

You are kind. I really like silkies although I see quite a few people that don't. I initially got them because they were fuzzy and cute and I wanted a docile chicken for my children. Their personalities are what have sold me. My son's rooster Cozy keeps my hens fertile, but at the same time he is literally a doll-baby for my son to pack around. The hens are such good broodies and the roosters are so careful and gentle with hens and chicks. We got up a couple of hours early this morning and started butchering. It didn't hurt me much to process the big mean black orp that always bites me. The silkie roos on the other hand and pure sugar and sweetness and I have a hard time with it.

I know there are other BYCers in CT, but I can't recall who...

It's time to get yourself a turner, and that will help. You have to have a plan for the loner, because you'll have it screaming at you 24/7 if you don't get it a pal!

Had one a few minutes ago.

The one from NYD is quite pretty now. Her name is still Gorilla Snot.

!!!!

My eldest daughter (15) had a terrible cold recently and woke up with a grotesque upper lip...she called it her 'crustache.' Naturally, when the younger daughter and I got the cold, the younger declared the elder had 'im-plague-nated' her in order to cause her to have a 'crustache.'

Gorilla Snot would be a typical pet's name in our house. Just wait until the dog has an accident and someone latches onto the name 'Butt Pudding.'

So if Saturday noon is due time, when might we expect some rocking and rolling - assuming the incubation went smoothly? Will they start tomorrow to finish by Saturday or do they start Saturday? (I'm dying here ....

the wait is KILLING me!)

Okay, thank you for the reassurance!

I was nervous already, and it was only getting worse. Deep breath. Look for distractions...
I am a teacher, so I originally timed my hatch this way so I'd be home on spring break. Now it's become endless hours to check the temperature and humidity, fuss with the brooder... (But I am having fun.

) C'mon, chickies!

I just wanted to say thank you to ChooksChick and Daisychick - my hatch is done, (I started early) but I remember watching the clock strike the moment 21 days had passed and of course I had no pips and I was beside myself with worry! Thank you for holding our hands as we hover and pace and worry!
