Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I have a broody Silkie

, I'm so excited for something else to do all the work, and take care of chicks. I just hope that the other Silkie and the Cochin don't think they should follow the leader. 1 Broody at a time is good enough for me. They are filling up her nest for her though, they will squeeze in lay an egg and go back out and play and the girl faithfully sits on them. She has been contemplating going broody for a while and I kept finding her on my infertile duck eggs... I haven't seen her leave the nest in 2 days though, she hasn't even switched positions. Maybe she is serious

. I'll move her after I'm sure she is in it for the long haul so maybe I don't break her.

Am I the only one hoping for my hen to go broody? lol

1 more EE chick hatched ! All my EE hatched!! THat's 24 chicks, will double check tomorrow when I"m not so tired.

Trying to set up the LG again but for turkeys this time. Probably will set some EE from Granite on a pretty white and gray hen from my favorite EE hen.

Only 3 chicks hatched guys, there could be more, but I've lost hope. A broody's eggs were hatching today as well, so i just snuck my 3 chicks under her. So much for setting up a brooder for 40+ chicks.........I hope i have better luck next time. And congrats to everyone with wonderful hatches!

Am I the only one wanting my hens to STOP going broody? Current broody girls I have include 1 Icelandic with chicks, 1 Icelandic on eggs, 1 Barred Rock on eggs, 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte on eggs. I have already had SIX Wheaten Ameraucana broody girls this spring, and NOW one is trying her second round!

My 3 little hens have over run me with eggs.... So a broody hen is a nice break lol. We don't eat many eggs here, and we eat the duck eggs first since they are infertile

and hubby started counting chickens, ducks, and eggs yesterday and I thought he might pass out. He apparently hasn't been paying attention.
