Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Ok I lied. I ended up picking out 2 more to go in. One is a pure RIR, one is a questionable pink tinted egg that I think belongs to one of my RIRs (I hatched 2 red chicks from 2 of these a little while back), and the two cream colored eggs that I collected out of the RIR pen today. I also found out that my broody game hen is setting on 6 eggs, one of which I need to throw out cause it's clear. The rest of them are coming along like they should.

YOUR DAD, is trying to help you with CHICKEN MATH! Would you deny him that???

I would have put them all in, but -as I explained to my dad- I'm trying to see what the two turn out to be. I don't know what happened to the post I just did, but I ended up adding 2 more to my little hatch.

ETA: Oh, THERE it is.

WOW... I'm caught up and that didn't take long at all.

There are some crazy people out there folks. I don't want to get into the ENTIRE story... maybe someday when I'm not so upset about it.... BUT

Lilly had 3 pups.
.... in order of birth (born at 10:10, 10:40 and 11:10PM)
#1- Small black male, no tail, deformed back left leg.
#2- HUGE black male --- looks awesome, long black hair just like the other two
#3- black female...

DW did take Lilly to the vet this afternoon. ( It was hard for us to believe that she only had 3) The Dr. said she looked marvelous and she could tell the pups had been nursing. She got her shots updated... we just need to get an appointment to get her fixed! (and I was grateful for the relatively low cost of the visit)

And YES. Lilly was on the back porch last night giving birth and it was 40 degrees out there and YES we did have a dark red heat bulb above her (about 4 feet) for which I'm certain she and the pups were very grateful. We kept an eye on the thermometer and it was cool enough to keep her comfy and warm enough for the pups should they stray away... and YES she was in a big kidee pool that we purchased for them. The two normal pups look awesome.

I worked today from 7:30 with out one break until about 4:30.... and I'm double booked tomorrow. Probably a good thing.

Doesn't look like we've had any new sign ups, so I think I'm going to hit the sac. I truly am exhausted.

good to hear the pups are doin good wish u and them the best

Ok so make that 36 eggs I'll be setting on the 17th!

The extra dozen will be from my neighbor up the road and his eggs are a mix of green, blue, and brown. I'm doubly excited now! I need a little help remembering to call him on the 14th to make sure he remembers to set aside a mixed dozen for me. (He told me to.)

Only 3? wow

You have chocolate cows near you? Those would go so good with Marans eggs!

OMG not far with that recipe. My oven broke down on Christmas and there's no baking going on here

Oh Kim that is so sad! I just made a pumpkin volcano bread that is sooo good. Right now I am cooking some 3 bean and sausage soup that smells divine! I wish I lived closer! You're probably having a heck of a time cooking with that broken arm. I'd love to drop off some soup for you!

OK folks. I am gonna take the advice offered here and quit fighting with this horrible thermostat of mine even if it wasn't cheap. It is time to update and get everything in perfect working order. Got a new fan the other day and a more powerful fan has made a world of difference in holding great temps but this thermostat runs hot and when I set it it is fine til the power goes out then it resets itself at way too high a temp!

So does anyone have any recommendations for a new electronic thermostat? It needs to be the hard wired kind. My bator does not have the plug in adapters. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't keep up. I give up! 268 posts in less than a day! Okay someone tell me if I missed something really good and I will try and go back and find it...otherwise...Im just moving ahead to the end.
