Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

ugh what a night!!!!! sorry i have not been on tonight. I was trying to get some stuff done in the basement and it has NOT been going well at all !!!!!!! first i had to fix the light fixture for the bater I'm making for the hatch-a-long " the screw was rusty and the wiring was bad, so I had to take the thing apart and find and put a new screw in the thing. well when I was all done and plugged in the light, can you guess what happened?? BOOM!!!!!!!!!!

THE STUPID LIGHT BLOWED OUT THE BREAKER and I could not find the switch to turn the outlets back on, meanwhile my poor chicks that live in the basement are screaming there heads off because they are cold!!!!

so my poor dad who is NOT to go up or down the stairs,
th.gif
had to come down and help me find the breaker switch on the main breaker box. he looks at it and tell me " this is not the right box "
hu.gif
and had to show me where the other box is!!!!!!

then when we fix it, I can still here my chicks screaming in the other room. so I go to look and see what the problem is............ the heat lamp is out!!!!!!!
ep.gif
so I had to get the last used heat lamp bulb out and put it in for them.

and I don't know how long it will last !!!!! I then had to clean out the basement from bunch of stuff to make room to make a brooder room for the chicks i have now and for the ones to hatch in the hatch-a-long. 3 words............ live/dead mice, trash and mold!!!!!!!!!! and I still have more to do!!!! well I have a to buy list for tomorrow.....a light fixer, heat bulb shavings and feed.

Wow, I'm finally all caught up.

No good stories tonight, they were out behind the barn, out of our path. But tomorrow may be another story. We REALLY need to clean out the barn, and in order to do that we have to be able to get the 6-wheeler TO the barn and then to the compost bins. But the snow is about 2.5 feet deep so we have to snowblow a path wide enough for the 6-wheeler to travel on.

I think baby moose used a pile of snow to help it over the fence, and now (because it's a moose and therefor not very smart) the poor baby can't find a hill of snow to climb back out. I think it's just a titch too short to jump the 6 foot fence. Mom can just step over it, but is staying in the pasture because baby is trapped.

The problem is that the pasture just isn't big enough for all of us. I'm thinking I will contain the dog in the morning and open the big pasture gate and see if baby and momma will work their way through it. DH wants to get some firecrackers to help motivate them. Mom doesn't care about noise but baby doesn't like noises so he/she moves away. If we can herd the little one out the gate mom will follow. Then we can work and move about freely.

I have Icelandic eggs wrapped and ready for the post office. I have the helpful hints on shipped eggs bookmarked for reference and I'm going to study Renee's hatching hints over coffee in the morning while I wait for the family to come to life.

Thank you one and all. I've learned much tonight, you all have raised some great questions and come up with even better answers.

THIS IS NOT MY ART...I finded it on the interwebs. I just thought it was cool.

OK that is cool! I do draw and I have some marans eggs that are not dark enough to hatch... hmmmm, I wasn't planning on entering the art contest but it might be fun to do some artwork for a change. Never seem to have time for it these days. Now to find the time. I'm really slow so it might take awhile.

Finally goin to bed as well. Almost too excited to sleep. I have one chick that decided to hatch a day and a half early and it is chirping very loud. Oh well, must sleep, DS birthday party in the morning. Good night everyone.

I've got a busy day planned here, we're taking a pistol course to get our conceal carry permit this morning, then I have GOT to clean the coops and human coop and 2 brooders this afternoon.

Think I'm going to move the NYD chicks outside today with exception of the showgirls. Then I'm going to move the VD chicks in with the showgirls in the bigger indoor brooder and hope they get along (they're about the same size).

If not, the showgirls go by themselves into the small brooder the VD chicks just vacated.

We shall see.

We are doing Welsh Harlequin and Ancona.

Awesome! You are going to love them!

If you want any advice, go to the store and get generic Chux pads (pee pads/bed pads). CVS and walmart have the nicest, thickest ones of the generic that I could find up here. Don't use (Rite) Wrong Aid brand if you can help it. Put those in your brooder and your mess will be much more confined and manageable.
