It would really be ideal if I could get it working. I figured I just had a faulty one.

IT is possible to have a faulty LG. MOre often it takes a little practice, ChooksChicks cheat sheet page, and toss out the LG instructions and thermometer. LOL Also there is another older LG thread with more info too.

Making more hen saddles today. Used an old plaid flannel shirt from long ago, complete with paint splatters. Should be good camo from the hawks. The hawks have only grabbed a white bird--maybe a little camo will help the batch in the grwo out pen with a few white pullets.

DH left for a maple sugaring event and took a ewe sheep and her lambs. THey are used as part of a petting zoo. I tried to encourage him to take some eggs--he gave me "the Look". Maybe I can convince him tomorrow to take hatching eggs with him and find more buyers. He thinks there aren't those kinds of people at this event. Really???

If you want any advice, go to the store and get generic Chux pads (pee pads/bed pads). CVS and walmart have the nicest, thickest ones of the generic that I could find up here. Don't use (Rite) Wrong Aid brand if you can help it. Put those in your brooder and your mess will be much more confined and manageable.

This is now on my to-do list for the weekend. The family has been complaining of stinky wet shavings even though I clean out the duckling brooder every day!

How do you make your saddles, Arielle? I ordered a few, but now I need one more and don't want to spend the $. What do you use for straps? I don't think I have any elastic. Maybe I can cut something up....

It works pretty well; especially when they're small. When they get bigger though they start to play with the pad and then dig into the shavings underneath it with their bill and make a mess.

Nice egg art on that Marans egg! Someone on the Maine thread does that with emu eggs. Maybe SCG remembers who it is, since her brain is younger than mine.

My poor cat should be departing soon. She stopped eating, so her liver is shutting down now. She does not appear to be suffering, breathing slow and steady on my lap.
If she starts showing signs of distress, we're going to bring her to be put down. My worry is that she will start having pain on Sunday, when the vet is closed. I do have an old-ish pill that is a pet tranquilizer. Does anyone know if you can give a cat narcotics (like oxycodone)? Hopefully, she will pass peacefully without any drugs necessary.

UPDATE: Three Icelandic chicks out this morning..

I had some eggs in the incubator and was hoping one of my hens would go broody....an Icelandic pullet, only 8 months old, was the only volunteer this week...she has been on the nest all week with just one/two quick potty breaks...so tonight when I went out to the garage to check the lockdown humidity, one of the Icelandic eggs had a pip....wasting no time.....I ran in the house....got a hot damp towel.....grabbed the five Icelandic eggs and one Blue Isbar egg from the 'bator and ran out to the barn. I traded the golf ball under the pullet for the six eggs. We'll see how she does with them.........

Updates to follow tomorrow!!

Thanks, any any advice is more than welcome!
