Hi all .... I didn't think I'd have my incubator in time but its here YAY !!! I'll be setting 12 of my own Bantam Cochin eggs and possibly a few Partridge Silkie eggs if I can make arrangements with wholewheatchicken to buy eggs. So happy to be here.

255 posts later...I will try to catch up later. Not now. I am tooo tired.
Have you all seen how cool this is?

"If the rooster loves the chicken very much he gives her a big hug, the egg gets fertilized in the oviduct and 21 days later a chicken hatches."

I am new to this thread and can not go back and read it all.

Kathyinmo, what kind of egg is that? It is so cool looking

Nice egg art on that Marans egg! Someone on the Maine thread does that with emu eggs. Maybe SCG remembers who it is, since her brain is younger than mine.
My poor cat should be departing soon. She stopped eating, so her liver is shutting down now. She does not appear to be suffering, breathing slow and steady on my lap.
If she starts showing signs of distress, we're going to bring her to be put down. My worry is that she will start having pain on Sunday, when the vet is closed. I do have an old-ish pill that is a pet tranquilizer. Does anyone know if you can give a cat narcotics (like oxycodone)? Hopefully, she will pass peacefully without any drugs necessary.

I'm sooooo sorry. I hope she just goes to sleep peacefully. I don't know if you can give her anything that won't make her miserable because cats can't have so many meds other animals can have. Perhaps call your vet to see if there's a way you can get them on call should that occur? Years ago, mine came out to our house to put down a 22 year old cat I'd owned more of my likfe than not (at that point I was young!). It was only a few minutes of her time and was very kind of her. I hope you can have access to that form of care.

Yesterday I drove 3+ hours to wichita early to work. I'm a natural foods rep, like a pharmaceutical rep, and I go around and bring various products my brokerage represents and share them with buyers. I get to bring lots of goodies and make folks happy! So I visited 5 stores and got to have lunch with HEchicken and then met up with Tazcat70 after I was done with all of my visits. It was great fun! Unfortunately, I am a Gabby Girl and Tazcat and I talked so long (without realizing it) in the dark parking lot that my battery died...so she had to jump my car so I could drive home!! She sent me home with a PEACHICK!!!!

Yeah...we chicken-folk can talk about fowl, right???

One of the fellows who manages one of the stores is a guinea owner, and he has never owned chickens...I'm bringing him Chanteclers next time I visit, so he has a snuggly, yet capable bird to try. He has some predator issues and Chanties seem very able when it comes to avoiding being lunch.

Last bit before I wander off to work in the sun: I have two friends who have major health issues plaguing their parents and parents-in-law, and they would very much appreciate prayers and good thoughts, well-wishes, or anything of the kind that we can offer. If you don't mind, would you lift them up? Thank you so much!

Kathy, I am sooooooooooo excited for you!! I can't wait until I can come visit and hug you emus! The lady I know who has them doesn't have emus that want to hug me...

So, we finally went to the feed store for chicks. Unfortunately they didn't have any RIRs so we didn't get any chicks and they didn't have any breeds I wanted. They did have a standard size rooster with feathered legs. I'm wondering what breed he is. We're going back Thursday so I'll try to get a pic of the roo. Oh and, dad originally said one and now he says 5.

If there is a such thing as 'Plant Math', then my dad has it. He walked away to get 1 more tomato plant and came back with the tomato and 2 strawberries. Then we were about to leave and he spotted the blueberries. So, we came home with $30 worth of plants.
