I just wish my other eggs would arrive.
I made a pathetic attempt at sanding my Marans eggs tonight. I only did half of them, because I was afraid I would do some kind of damage. If everyone could please just pause on posting for a while, I'm going to sleep. I hate to think about how much catching up I will have to do in the morning.

I like that other people see a bunch of eggs, while all of us see a carton full of potential.

I still have no idea how many I am going to set.

Neither do I ! I'm still collecting. Yesterday the BC marans gave me four, that means today is 1 egg and tomorrow about 3. Of course if I count on that many the girls are sure to fowl things up! Of course if someone calls wanting eggs--off they go!

Still not caught up--have other chores to do.

Got my gorgeous eggs from SCG today! Getting another dozen local eggs tonight plus I am adding in six leghorn/BO crosses. So I should be setting.. lemme think.. 42 eggs. I'll update the spreadsheet when I know for sure.

So, help me out ... I get confused easily ... instead of 25 mixed Jaers and RCC Dorkings, he sent you 47 mystery chicks? Or did he send you some of the Jaers? Have you figured out what the mystery chicks are? ... I kinda thought he usually labeled the replacements. How much fun to get mystery chicks

(once you get over the dissappointment of not getting the RCC Dorkings). How long did you have to wait on the Jaers (if you got some)? I have a friend that was going to order some from Ideal this spring, but waited to long and now they're not available until May or later. I wonder if she ordered some Jaers from Sand Hill now if she would get them next spring 2013).

He did send Jaers, 19, plus 10 Delawares, 4 red Dorkings, and 4 black Orps. The remaining ones are a mystery - there is one brown chipmunk that has 5 toes on each foot, no feathers on the legs, so ?? I may post some pics in the what breed thread when I have 2 seconds to sit down. He also said he would send the RC dorkings later if he could.

Ok, I definitely hatch too much. Just called my post office and said nothing but "I just wanted to let someone know I had a shipment of eggs coming today" (did not give name) and she immediately knew who I was and said she already had my phone number on their bulletin board. ROFL.

My PO is great, they give me a call about 6:30 am, I go down and holler outside the door and they hand me the goods.

35 EO, 6 partridge Cochin LF, 4 lemon cuckoo Orps, 3 Marans, 2 Buckeyes so far - and 3 or 4 shipments of I-Can't-Remember-Breed or Number eggs still to come. And the eggs to pick up tonight from Taprock, blue wheaton Ams.

I had set my emu eggs yesterday!

Also got an shipment of Light Brahma eggs and some Cochins yesterday- 33 eggs, but 13 of them were smashed! I blame the poor packing mostly, and rough shipment. The eggs were all over in the box, some were upside down. I have not candled them yet, just going to let them sit still longer. I just hope that I will be able to get at least 5 chicks. :/

I wouldn't worry about the broody too much. Every one I've had has "held it" until I get home, which is around 4 PM. They run around for about 30 minutes then I help them back to the right nest. I've done it in the winter, too, where it's been dark at night when I get home, and I just leave a flashlight on in the coop for her to walk around and eat/drink.

Thanks, SCG, that's good to know. I'm going to make up a lid for her while I'm off, and we'll see how she does.

That is a lot of broken eggs!

I received 2 out of 8 smashed just recently - and 15 out of 15 intact in another shipment which went through a crazy, multi-state detour before getting to me two days late. I agree that packing seems to make all the difference.

Oh my goodness. So after seeing how many eggs everyone is setting, I think we are definately going to break a world record on the number of eggs set! I am sure hatcheries dont set this many eggs in a day! Wowser!


My icelandics have been stuck on the east coast for 2 days, has moved from one sorting facility to another....that is not boding well.

I was wondering just yesterday if this large of a group is a BYC record?

As for the eggs, the PO doesn't always update their tracking system. I've had eggs say the are sitting in another state while they are being handed to me across the counter. Hopefully, with out "christmas rush" we've just bogged down the system and your eggs are really almost home.

Whats really pitiful is that I am hand-turning 120+ eggs at least 3 times a day.

However, by doing so I can fit alot more in each bator without stacking.....yet.

I may be doing the same thing. I haven't figured out yet how my egg tetris is going to work. I have some of my eggs that could turn, some shipped eggs I wasn't going to turn, and only one bator which has an auto turner in it... I'm sure I"ll come up with a brilliant plan and I hope that happens really soon
