that my eggs from Renee will be here on time. Just checked the tracking and the expected delivery date is tomorrow. Hoping that they are not too scrambled so I can just pop them in the bator once they arrive. I won't have time to let them rest

Later!

I received 28 eggs, shipped from CA and PA, yesterday. None broken..

..all now resting in egg cartons on the floor of my closet. Our house is a ranch built on a concrete slab, and my closet is in the northwest corner of the house. It stays nice and cool there. Waiting for more CA and PA eggs and some from NC. I'll be getting some others tomorrow morning locally and adding a few late ones on Sunday evening that I will be picking up while I'm that direction for our grandson's birthday party. I can't believe the number of eggs I'll be setting..........I don't know how many of my own I'll be adding...if any.....may just let the broodies hatch mine later!! I'll post a pic with breed details after they all arrive!
I'll be meeting with karimw this afternoon to drop-off two dozen Icelandic eggs she'll be setting for this hatch!

I'm super-jealous.

Whats really pitiful is that I am hand-turning 120+ eggs at least 3 times a day.

However, by doing so I can fit alot more in each bator without stacking.....yet.
Goodness!

You are a dedicated woman! That's a lot of work.

Mahonri, here are a couple of pictures of Dreki for you that I took this evening! It's my bedtime so I'll have to wait until tomorrow morning to see the his eggs arrived intact! Good night!

That is one handsome rooster!

I had the LONGEST, most awesome post ready to go and somehow I lost it. I HATE when that happens. Exact same thing happened to me yesterday!!! I lost, like, 10 minutes!

So I'm still waiting for eggs tomorrow from Wickenburg...sulmtalers and cubalayas from ca and the Grab Bag Box of Eggs from Renee... and last I checked the box was still in KC.... crossing my fingers it will get her by Saturday at noon.

What I did get in the mail today. 47 eggs total from:

Maryland
Peachick: 14 Gorgeous Blue Eggs (W/BW Ameraucanas) I always LOVE getting her eggs and then a surprise!
6 Black/Blue Sumatras! (Have you ever seen pics of these GORGEOUS BIRDS! WOW!)

San Dieggo
WhiteMountainsRanch: 11 Awesome Blue Wheaten Ameraucana eggs. She gave me these specifically for the Easter Hatch-a-long. The Blue Wheaten Roo over her Blue Wheaten girls is real EYE CANDY and is a son of my Geoffrey that I purchased from Jean (Geoffrey passed not long ago in Heber, AZ)

N. Illinois
NotAFarm: 16 WONDERFUL ICELANDICS!... 9 eggs of which came from the Drekki pen!! One of the most beautiful roos on the planet.
AND 12 Easter Eggs. When my wife saw them she said, "You guys are chicken crazy, but she knows her chocolate!" She sent me all of this FREE of charge.... THANK YOU!

Still awaiting Kansas and Wickenburg!

Pics: enjoy.

I begged to eat the chocolate egg on the lower right. DELISH!

47 eggs here.. I have room for another 28... if I get much more than that, I'll be taking a trip to Larees to add eggs to one of her bators!
Also totally jealous of these!

What a fantastic mix!

No other pips in the hatcher. The 2nd chick I had to help out isn't really moving around that much, but it did have to have a little bath so it could even move since it was so stuck together. The other one is all over the place. I wish I knew what happened. Only thing I can think of is the temp must have evaporated the water too fast. All those pretty eggs. sigh

I'm so sorry.

Yesterday, I changed out the nesting material in one of the floor nest boxes and put my little Phoenix on seven eggs - my 6 swap eggs and one of my SS eggs - well after dark at around 9 pm. I put the eggs in the nest closest to the wall so that the others won't be climbing over her to lay, at least. I took the wooden eggs out of the other nest box on the floor.

I would like to avoid penning her into the nest box until confinement if possible. Now that it is daylight savings time (

not a fan), it is still fairly dark when I leave for work and she doesn't get up to go to the bathroom until later. My DH helps out a lot with the chickens because he is home during the day, but because of his job (musician), he doesn't wake up until about 10:30 am and he is a slow riser. So, he wouldn't get up to let her out until at least 11:15 or 11:30.

I am randomly off of work today, so I sat outside and watched her chirp around the yard frantically and waited as she pecked furiously at the feeder inside and settled herself back down. In the wrong nest box. Which had no eggs - not even wooden. I picked her up, put her on the right nest, and she settled in happily. Hmm. Maybe I will need a lid and she will just have to wait until 11:30.

Anyway, I have two more mornings at home. I am hoping that she gets more and more used to her nest and begins to remember where to go over the next couple of days. If not, I'll be making a lid sooner rather than later.

Here are the seven eggs I put under her, Marans and Orpington mixes and a SS:

I wouldn't worry about the broody too much. Every one I've had has "held it" until I get home, which is around 4 PM. They run around for about 30 minutes then I help them back to the right nest. I've done it in the winter, too, where it's been dark at night when I get home, and I just leave a flashlight on in the coop for her to walk around and eat/drink.
