Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I've set my eggs. 45 Eggs total. After I catch up on this thread I'll go fill out the forms and put myself on the map.

Actually 40 of them were set on the 11th. The dark Bantam eggs are the late eggs I put in and are from my flock. I'm going to candle before I got to bed and get rid of what clears I can see.

This thread is exploding faster than I can read.
I got the Eco 20 warmed up and ready I think, but
I need help with the stacking of eggs in it.
Any help on that would be super.

How many over 24 do you need to set? Did you see the pic SCGs? She put over 30 in hers and big eggs too. She doesn't use the little dividers.
When I need to, I put extras on top in each corner with tissue paper around them so they don't crack when the turner moves all the way to one side or the other.

I feel like SCG last year. I am going to go and stalk the nest boxes to see if I have more to add!!

I'm holding off on setting to stalk the nest boxes, too!! For the marans and ee/AM eggs. And the BO, too. All eggs from storage have been moved to the room to warm up from 45 to about 65. Don't want to shock any of them.

ok i have a question i have more eggs that were suppose to be here today but will not be here to monday i do not have a third incubator and they one i went and borrowed it is broken so no incubtor to put them in when they get here is it ok for me to place them with the eggs i put in today and if so if i stop turnning them 2 days early will it hurt them will hate for the eggs from cj to go to waste.

Room temperatures also can effect the temperature in the incubator. Probably some models are effected more than others. My LG swings with the weather. Also, it's been so warm, that I haven't fired up the wood stove for a number of days. ANd so the house temps are slowly falling; by the end of this week the temps outside maybe soaring to 80. My LG will be swinging a lot this week!!

i do not have the 1588 model i have the 1602n model hopefully putting a third thermomiter in will give me an idea of how hot it actually is in the incubator

Have you calibrated the thermometers? SOrry there have been so many posts, I may have missed this. I put my fish tank thermometers in a cup of hot water and figured if they all read the same temp I'd be ok. FIsh tank thermometers don't register high enough to reach boiling or cold enough for a freezing temp. Nice DH to help out. I'm sure you are feeling the pressure. Hank in there. Breathe.

1. Take a deep breath
2. Go back and re-read the comments since the first posts you made on the bator and late egg questions. You have been given advice on both questions, but you must decide.
3. Try the suggestion that Mahonri gave you on adjusting the temp on your thermostat
4. Take another deep breath
5. Remember, you don't have to set at noon, you have time to work it out.

I think I'm coaching myself to calm down, Mahonri! BTW - At the risk of being too personal, you may want to take a razor to the healthy skin around the burn sites, it will help with taping and may make it easier to apply meds.......

I have two cute little pullet eggs that I am clenching my teeth not to slip in with the others. Can I get some opinions on the hatch rates and health of chicks for pullet eggs? Quick!

... shucks I've only had mine set for 20 minutes... plus or minus an hour... and besides I'm in EAST Phoenix.

You shouldn't be setting for over an hour! I know you are the same time as west coast now even if you are in EAST PHX

Wisher, if you really want to I say throw them in. The main problem with pullet eggs is size more than anything else. If they are decent sized pullet eggs IN THEY GO!

Got two more eggs and I am gonna check one more time because my blue AM was laying when I last checked.

If the roo has been with your pullets, put the eggs in.

I did that last year and one hatched... I will say though, the one that hatched out of the pullet egg looks like a bantam ameraucana and I'll be re homing her eventually... even though her eggs are almost as big as her sisters that hatched out of normals sized eggs.

Oh, and every time I reapply bandages, I think.. why don't I just SHAVE!?!

It's on the to do list.

Also with the 1588, I had to set the #6 toggle switch. (rather than the preset #4)
Temp has been steady at 99.5 for over half an hour.

So participant #239 has joined... wish we could get another 11 to join before the end of the day.
Someone needs to cruise the "Incubating and Hatching Eggs" section and look for folks who are talking about setting today.... and tell them where to go.
