Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I've been locked in the coop. DH installed pulls for the INSIDE, so I couldn't get locked in, but there are drop-down cam locks on the OUTSIDE of the coop/run doors, to prevent the dogs from pushing to get in.

All that planning means crap when you have a toddler, who likes to play with cam locks.

(Click with caution, as you'll need to pardon my wave.  The DH thought it'd be funny to snap a pic.)

Kids always make life more..........interesting.....yeah, that's the word to use....this is a family friendly place after all!!

When I first moved into my last house, my son was really into showing rabbits in 4-H, I had a 16x32 foot barn built for him at the bottom of the hill (read that far from the house and no neighbors within sight or ear shot). We were still in the set up stage, I was installing an automatic watering system, etc. This barn had no windows, just 12 inch permanent venting around ground and roof level. I was very proud of myself when I installed the gate latch on the door. I stepped into the barn and tested the swing and latch. Literally a split second before the door slammed shut I realized there was no way to release it from the inside (I of course was in there).

He was 15, how long do you think it would have taken him to realize I wasn't around? There were no animals there to feed, not that it didn't take nagging to get him to do that anyway.

The VERY next thing I did was drill a hole and install a wire pull from the inside of the barn. It had a HUGE finger loop in it, so there was no way it could slip through the wall.

I would have had to dig out under the foundation...at least it had a dirt floor and soft dirt.

I was clear back on page 15 when I realized I wasn't getting posts for this thread. I thought it was kind of odd because this is a chatty group. I just now got caught up on page 59.

My dog locked my truck with it running this summer while I was in the gas station. I tried to get her to step on the power locks. No, she just stood there wagging her tail and "smiling". I finally remembered the back sliding window's latch doesn't work so I slid that open and crawled through into the back seat. Can you imagine seeing a 6'5" 275# + guy doing this?

My Jack Russel has done this to me too. Fortunately I had a spare key stashed and just had to crawl under the truck (in the mud of course) and get it. I like to think he did it accidentally but we had just come from the vet . . .

Love it!

The good part of my day today is I finally "remembered" to take the measuring tape out to the coop to measure for another nest box curtain.
