Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Looks like the cold weather forced my broody off her eggs. Its snowing here.

Dangit, I really wanted to enter to win that incubator...

I'm having broody problems too

I stuck 5 turkey eggs to test fertility for the Great Turkey Hatch and she bailed on them yesterday. No one is serious yet but pretty soon I'll have to build more nest boxes so the non broodies will have a place to lay. I just have no luck relocating broodies.

The flash kind of "blew out" the color on the Ameraucana eggs in the first pic.......in the last pic they look "minty" and they are not.....
The four in the back left are the Isbar eggs......I'm so excited to see how they all do!!

Don't be makin' fun of the old Farm Master 'bator now............

That's a neat old bator! You let me know if it needs to be rehomed

New pic, to replace the pic I posted previously! I found an excuse to add more eggs to the bator yesterday. I would have 12 chicken and 12 duck, but I poked a hole in one of them while I was marking them. So that went into muffins :) So, 12 ducks and 11 chickens!

I was pleasantly surprised by peeping this morning coming from a pipped egg due to hatch yesterday. [I usually have some pips by day 20 at the latest.] It is sitting in the half shell now, and waiting to see if the other hatches or if I need to go buy it some company. I set 10 pullet eggs and 2 Silver Ameraucana X Red Sexlink hen eggs to test fertility, and none of pullet eggs developed; not a great forecast on hatch rate for my Easter hatch.

For Elska eggs, and how could you mention her without a picture ?

Well its been a heck of a week, I would have had more eggs from my gals but the creek behind the house flash flooded and I had to move everybody 3 days before set date and they didn't lay because of the stress. the water rose quick and I had to lock them inside their coops which I have 2 foot off the ground to make sure they were safe. I had to move all my young-ins new layers into the garage because their coop wasn't finished. They all basically stopped laying for those 3 days, can't blame um. but then a teacher contacted me about 2 dozen she needed to set this week for her elementary class the other person she ordered her eggs from went flaky on her. So I donated the last 2 dozen I collected for the hatch-a-along to her classroom. Then my computer hard drive ate ****, I a now sick from wading through that fridged cold water to keep them fed and watered.
During all this I was able to set the 17th @ high noon 29 standard chicken eggs and 29 Bantam Chicken eggs, so we will see how the hatch goes. I hope really well!

Please excuse the empty spaces in the first incubator, I will be moving the rest of the bantam eggs to the other incubator. and the dirty eggs, my very best hatches and healthy pipers come from uncleaned eggs dry incubated.

hi i have set 128 eggs 105 on sat and 23 today if someone can please look at them and let me know is i stacked them correctly so they do not get messed up also i will be switching the ones on top out with the ones on bottom every so often so that each egg gets turn in the slots of the turners

You might want to consider not having eggs in the slots right by the turner motor. I've heard it can get overheated from the heat of the motor. Or at least swap that egg with another each day so no egg spends too much time there. Some turners even have a blank spot there so it can't be used.

But I suppose everyone's experience varies.

Good luck with your hatch,
Deb
