Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Kwote:

I've been reading, honest I have, but I always seem to be about 40 pages behind, so by the time I see the answer, I've already asked the "question". I'm almost caught up for tonight, but by the time I have a chance to get back on tomorrow, you all will have another 40 - 50 pages! (Please, no more that that.

) I think I need the "Cliff Notes" version.

I love the macrame netting Sueg! Very practical too. Keeps flying predators out and keeps flying chickens in. We are in the process of tenting our runs but they are huge so I just bought a bunch of deer netting. I am going to sew it together and then cover the run tent-style. We are waiting on a delivery for 12' posts for the main poles. It will ne nice and tall but it won't be nearly as colorful. I love the bright cheery colors on yours!

I also have the deer netting over my pen. I don't know how much snow you get there, but when we get snow (which isn't too often, luckily), I have to go out and "smack" the netting (from underneath, cause I'm vertically challenged, LOL), with a snow shovel or something, because the snow sticks to it. It's truly amazing how far that stuff can stretch. It's usually 5' to 6' high. The other day, it was hanging barely 3' off the ground in the middle. Be sure to wear a hood, or the snow goes down your neck!

I have filled out the form twice. First when I signed up, and just now, with my actual eggs set. But I like the number of eggs set, hatched, totals and Mahonri's hatch numbers better on my first entry.

Really, I am not entering any contests. I just wanted my set number for those folk who ARE in the contests and counting things up. 'Course, that means the total will be off if that column is added up.

<*sigh*>

I don't see mine on the list. The one where everybody did fill out the form. I went to the link provided to see the results and I couldn't fine me. I'm not on your list of those that haven't filled it out though.

It's by the date you submitted. You are the second one on 3/18/12.

Well, I'm finally off to bed. I just finished watching War Horse (very, very awesome movie) and I'm tired. I might candle my neighbor's eggs before I go to sleep. I had to fix a crack earlier and I'm worried there may be more. Goodnight folks!

I used to use ACV in the bath when I would get a sunburn at the beach. I'd come home and head immediately for the tub. It twook the pain right away. However, I didn't know about ACV being used for burns that I might get cooking. Let's say I burned my finger on a pan I was taking from the oven ... how would I use ACV to help that burn not bubble up? A dab? A soak? A spray? Full strength? Diluted? I sure hope you see this post. Thx.

, but at least I wasn't the only one who didn't know.

Nope. I also didn't know. And I've read the thread. But I don't understand everything that is being written ... not by a fur piece. (see following quote from BostonBryce) We just use the term Gaia. The term MN and Mother Nature are seldom used. Well, unless we forget to buy the Chiffon margarine.

You know, I couldn't figure out why these folks have a tramp living in their backyard. First I pictured a hobo with a kerchief hanging on a stick resting on a shoulder. Then I pictured someone who rides the rails and digs through my dumpster in the alley. I thought of Louis L'Amour. I couldn't figure out why the tramp would actually want to be in their backyard. Then it dawned on me after staring at the word "swingset," that the tramp is a trampoline. Duh. But that's why I would never understand the discussion about MN. Mother Nature never wakes people up around here.

My first thought was "Is Lady there too"? Boy, I'm aging myself. Or maybe it's sleep deprivation. Or too much reading. LOL

Quote: Haha! Thanks for the warning. Yes we do get snow and neighbors have warned us that a heavy snow can damage the netting. I'll take your advice but I think I'll need something taller than a snow shovel. I think I'll make a combo Chicken Gitter and Snow Dislodger/Beater/Knocker??? IDK what to call it but it should work quite well. The highest points of the "tent" will be at 10.5 feet and I will have roosts at 7' for the Yokohamas to roost on once they are big enough to go outside. I'll definitely wear a hood but I'm pretty sure I'll still find a way to get snow in my face.

Quote: Well, heat rises, so when the turner moves the thermometer up, it reads warmer. When the turner moves the thermometer to the bottom of its cycle it is cooler. So the middle of the egg should be approximately the average of the two. I just try to visualize a hen sitting on eggs. The eggs on the outside of the nest are going to be cooler than the middle eggs. The hen will get off or move around and/or rearrange the eggs, so some of the outside ones are now in the middle, etc., so the turner in a way is just emulating MN (Mother Nature LOL). I think the major concern is to be sure they don't get too hot or too cool for long periods of time. But this is just my feeble opinion.

wouldn't you know it? She called again.

Is it time to candle yet? We are at least a week away from first candle aren't we?

I hate counting my chickens before they hatch, but I'd LOVE to get more than 20 out of 74 eggs.

But alas, with shipped eggs and temp issues at the beginning, I suppose I'll need to be happy with whatever comes out.

How I miss the days of having a roo, but I simply can't afford $518 to get a roo decrowed.

Time to go back to sleep. Talk about RANDOM RAMBLINGS!
G'nite... again.
