Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

At this point, I only hurt when I move. The silvadene doesn't take the hurt away, but I'm having faith that it will help me heal. After making my bator rounds and putting the medicine on the bad spots, I realized I was hurting so I popped a pain pill hoping it will help me go to sleep. I hate taking ANY narcotic., but I'll tell you for the past week there have been times I wonder if I would have made it without them. I had gone over 30 hours this time without taking one so that's a positive thing.
Like I said earlier, I've been through three PAINFUL kidney stones. None of those episodes compare to the pain I've been through this week... from now on any pain will be compared to this.

The SSD is not supposed to make it feel better, it has both sulfa and silver which are antimicrobial!

I agree that it's a bit early to be tossing eggs from candling - unless they stink and weep, leave them. That's my opinion.

I'm going to try and get some gardening done today... boyfriend is home until 11 and doesn't know yet that he'll be getting out the tiller as soon as he finishes breakfast! :)

THATS the problem I not have BOTH!!!!!

I peeked at the eggs in my hovabator today - not touching the brinsea eggs until saturday as they are crammed in there good and I don't want to upset anything..

however, I see lots o' development in the hovabator! 5/6 of my leghorn X BO mutt eggs are developing as well as quite a few of the others. Some of the eggs I got from another member are very porous so not sure what's going on in there, but hopefully I can see better in a few days. I've had porous eggs do well, so not tossing those out just yet.

Going to do a real candling on saturday and we shall see. :)

Up at 330 AM today Ugh! I am a reverse insomniac - everyone else has problems falling asleep, I sleep fine but UP UP at ridiculous hours.

Incubators holding steady so far. =)

not by your self up at 4:30 went to bed at 12..... PS eggs holding between 99 and 102 nova bator (no turner) 99.5 for Little giant with turner. And the new Brinsea 20 holding great at 99.5 hasn't missed a bit.
Now if it can just hatch those stubborn Marans eggs.

This is from Aveca's page on handling shipped eggs. I would think that this would apply to all eggs, and that handling the egg excessively during the formation of the germ would possibly destroy the developing embryo - maybe one of the reasons not to candle for the first week or so, to allow the early development to occur without disruption.

"sometimes befor or during shipment conditions are right for the germ to begin to develope, this is the most delicate time for a hatching egg. and the time when most are damaged ..tiny blood vessels are beginning to form, and cells are deviding and organizing , and being shocked with sudden temp changes and shaking .so dont beat yourself up if all of your shipped eggs do not hatch, more than air cell damage , the germ itself became disorganized and cannot re build itself. that is why the freshest shipped eggs are most desirable. you will get a larger percentage to hatch using this method and conditions in your incubator are correct"

' forgot to post this on set day....

Definitely cute and worth a giggle any time of year. My only problem with the comic is that St. Patrick would have been seated on the other side of the car. Right? Surely, even in the AD400s, the Irish were seated on the right side of the vehicle when driving.

... brought my sister over to the dark side... she wants a duck!

Though I haven't done near as much as some of you have today.

You got your sister to want a duck? Good work, Luke (I'm just continung on with your Star Wars reference about the "dark side.") You have done more than your fair share of work for the day. Take today off you should!

I have been reading everyones worrries with their incubating. This is my first time setting eggs, and since I tend to overthink and over do EVERYTHING, I have made it a point with this activity to try and remain catiously clueless. I have my still air lg with temps between 99 and about 101, I filled the little water reserves almost all the way up and I havent touched them since. I peek in several times a day to make sure I am not cooking them, but I havent touched them (well, that is not ENTIRELY true. I slipped and extra egg in there from our own chickens just to see if it will do anything). Now I am starting to worry that I am keeping myself TOO clueless!!! ARGH!!!

WHAT IF I KILL THEM ALL?!?! What if it is too humid? Or not humid enough? MY GOODNESS!!! I definitely should have done my typical over-analyzing, overboard on research routine!!!!! WHAT HAVE I DONE!!!!!!!

You should be fine. More than one way to handle humidity. IMO the real importance to humidity is the increasing size of the air cell. Do you have a pic to compare to when you candle?? I used a similar copy , a black and white copy, to have on hand while candling on the days indicated in the pics. If you need a different diagram, use the title of the pic and you will find other candling diagrams.

I haven't had a boring day. I rarely do. Today was moving day for my MIL. She went to the nursing home today. She lived with me. So with the 100+ children, grandchildren and inlaws It was me and one of her daughters that handled it all. I get the honors of sorting thru all of her stuff and deciding what goes to goodwill, what to store for her and whats trash. I called all the hospital equipment places to pick up her stuff. But first thing this morning I had to get her packed and ready to go and got called early to take her. The insurance insisted on a chest xray before she was admitted in the nursing home so I had to get her there and standing up long enough for them to take pics. Which is a feat in it's self. Then to the nursing home and unpacked and put away her things. I came home and checked on my chickens and found one of my favorite roosters dead. After dealing wtih all that I got to get started on clearing out one of her dressers because somebody was suppose to come get it and after I emptied it and moved it out of her room they decided they would come tomorrow.

I managed to sort most of her cloths and ran another check on the chickens. I got some eggs packed away, played a little farmville and i'm back on here. It's 11:44pm here now and i'm thinking about seeing if I can find my kitchen sink. I know it's in there somewhere under those dishes.

I won't be bored tomorrow either. I have to make another trip to the nursing home and a doc appt for myself which usually is an all day ordeal. A trip to the post office again, a trip to the grocery store. Of course tend to my feathered friends and hopefully i'll get to visit with them a while. I could go on and on.

I'm never bored. So if your bored come on over. I have lots of work to be done and sure could use some help.

I'm sure moving is a tramatic event for both you and her. I still remember going thru my grandfathers stuff with my mother. A day I will always remember. It is amazing how much we accumulate. I couldn't thow out all the sympathy cards after his second wife's death. I don't know any of these people but I feel more connected to him just having these cards in a box. I kept an old suitcase with his work pants and worn belt and extra light bulbs for his slide projector. I have that and all his slides. My mother through so much into a pile for goodwill, and I swiped a couple nice coats. Maybe my boys can wears these someday and I can tell them about a great grandfather that died before they were born.

And my sink seems to always be over flowing, too! LOL I need to get the boys washing dishes now; not just putting the dry items away. Afterall, they make most of the dishes!! LOL

She was standing up AND talking when we got up at 5 this morning, when we went to bed she was sitting up more and looking around but not getting up...this morning she was UP so we tried seeing if she would eat and she ATE some medicated eggs all by herself! Egg with baby Tylenol, nutra drench, sugar, and baby parrot food in it...for strength...she wasn't able to eat much but with all that good stuff in it she didn't need to eat much...DEFINITE improvement for all those waiting on word.....
in other news...we have weathered the storms, although it is still drizzling...one coop is completely dry the other is a bit damp, but has dry "places" and one is under mud advisories...that would be the "cockerel coop" guess what we work on this weekend? poor guys. ALL the areas we put all the sand in is great! it worked like a charm the barn isle way isn't flooded again thank GOD! I think we got 5 inches or so Of rain so all in all we did really well..the wind howled, but the coops didn't blow away, stayed MOSTLY dry....everyone seems safe for now, but I still will not leave anyone out of the coops and there WAS ANOTHER HAWK in the pasture yesterday....maybe the same one "released????
...
I think I will go to the Doc today to try to get new meds for this horrific headache... matter of fact "headache"really doesn't seem accurate...."brain bleed", "eye Blasting Aneurysm" something else much more dramatic seems much more fitting than "headache"

We have been so worried about the "coop" that Deb went and bought baby monitors for all the coops, I am laying here listening to our new rooster (laying coop)practice his voice to all the farm inhabitants...well the little bantam roo Friz (yes a frizzle) not original I know we all have one....is practicing his new crow next door (hawk coop)....and As I write this a new little voice chims in...didnt know there WAS another little voice....or one less hen, guess I should go see who the culprit is...sneaky little devil to avoid the ROO coop. oh well if it is a banty it wont go with the big meanies anyway.

We are about to go take a few Maran roo boys up to the store to try and sell cheap! and one leghorn/EE x ...told my sister she could have all the money if she would take them and sell em. These are nice little boys too I just have to many
There is the morning news from Dayton! Goodmorning WORLD!
