I've got my special English stock Jumbo Pekings going on lockdown today. Hopefully I'll get some nic pics of them in our garden, or with our spring flowers, for a calandar entry!

Come on baby ducks!

Easter Hatch A Long eggs are coming along nicely. (but I can't candle the dark pheasant eggs, or the quail)

Here is my obsessive incubation question for you experts:

The kids will be on spring break and the school will be closed from day 11 to day 19. The director has agreed to meet me at the school a few times to let me in so that I can add water and check on the eggs (not that there's much checking I can do). I'm contemplating taking the eggs home on day 10, and then bringing them back on day 19 so that way I don't have to inconvenience both the director and I by going in multiple times while the school is closed (I figure I'll need to add water every 3 days or so- that's how often the one little well goes dry). I have a brinsea mini advance, and it always goes right up to temp within 15 minutes. Drive is 15 minutes, so it wouldn't be a huge interruption if I did take them home. Should I leave them at the school for spring break, or take them home?

I feel that I do need to add water occasionally because the ambient humidity around here is only 20% or so, and if I keep one well of water in the incubator, that keeps the humidity in there around 30-35%.

Remember that a mom gets off the nest every day for 30 minutes approximately. The temp going down isn't a big deal.

If the director has to come by and check on the school anyway, I would leave them there. My parents were both school teachers and there was always someone at the school, even on holidays, checking on the boilers, cleaning things up and making sure it was secure.

OK here's a story for any other insomniacs up late. I found this online so some of you have probably already seen it. Anyway...

Think I'll be able to sleep soon. I've been puppy hunting and reading more about that poor kid Trayvon Martin. That whole thing is just really upsetting me.

I don't often get upset at the new, but this has me steaming mad !

The investigators better get to the bottom of this fast. Self defense? . . . my eye. WHy is the man carrying a gun? A cop wanna be? I feel for the family and the whole community.

You made me laugh, cause that's exactly what I do... most of the time! Unfortunately I lived alone for quite some time so I know how to run the lawnmower and snowblower! I don't mind much though, because that makes him have to do the weed whacking and plowing... uggghhhh I hate the weedwhacker with a passion. I'd rather let the weeds grow. Or get a goat. Or two.

SCG--yikes, my boys are young enough I have the power to end the shoot 'em up videos. DS had long comp essay state testing yesterday and he used one of these new games as his essay topic!!! I was mortified!!! He's a sweet kid and takes wonderful care of the animals, couldn't that have been an exciting topic to write about!!! Like avoiding the rooster that flogs, or rescuing an escaped chick or holding back the 9 turkeys while mom backs up the car.

You have me inspired to see about planting peas . . .

I have a question. If you have set eggs a day apart what would you do about lockdown? Should I put them all in lockdown on the date of the earlier ones or the day later ones? I'm guessing that opening the incubator the day after lockdown at add egss would be a bad idea. I was planning on starting lockdown when the first eggs are ready and just having the remaining eggs start lockdown a day early. What are your thoughts?

Wisher I have to agree, the best way for me to get DH to FINALLY do something he has promised to do, is to go out and start doing it myself. He will come running out and ask what I am up to. DUH!!!! I swear he is the king of "Iwasgonnajust". You know the land that is just east of Roundtuit.

That sounds fine. If you know the times of the day that you set both batches, you could split the difference and have one group 12 hours early and one group 12 hours late. That will make no difference to your hatch rate. IMHO

dsqard -- Mine is actually pretty good at doing anything I ask him to do especially if I say that he is really better at it than I am and how strong and sexy he looks when he is working all muscle-ly and sweaty. .....chuckles softly to herself......
I have to be careful with this one, sometimes he over does it and will pull a muscle!
