Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Well we came thru the storms with no damage and with lights intact sad to say just 10 miles down the road is another story a tornado touched down and caused alot of damage and a house fire due to a gas line being wripped up out of the ground from under a house. Please keep my neighbors from down the road in yalls prayers. ok question on my temps some say 102 since i have still air and the eggs in the turnner are cool and the eggs stacked on top is warm and others say 100 ontop of the stacked eggs. which should i do to save the hatch should i try and get a 3rd incubator and take the stacked eggs out and place them in a 3rd incubator if i can find one and get it stabled.
For the money would you consider installing a PC fan?? Get that warm air circulating and the 102 becomes a non-issue. THe goal is 99-100 at all levels of the incubator.

About the crossbeaks

I have been reading about crossbeaks lately and there is a product that they sell at Walgreens or CVS that is supposed to help a lot. It is Bioplasma Sport. Here is a pic of it!

It is supposed to help the jaw muscle redevelop heathier. I have not tried it but it is pretty inexpensive and it can't hurt too much I would think!

I talked to a master breeder last fall, he talked to a friend who had bred EE for 20 years; cross beak is viewed as a lethal. I have had 3 and each grew at poor rates. I have learned that if the cross beak is like the pic with the famous Beetles icon, to cull. Other versions may work out. I have one with a lower beak that is too long, otherwise the line up is correct so she can eat so far. Just my 2 cents.

I had to come and read posts here today because I am just too depressed to do much outside even though it was a very pretty day here

. I bought some chicklets from a lovely man and had them sent express mail. They were suppose to arrive yesterday by three. They did not and the post dept was pretty cruel in saying - well just give us a call tomorrow. They arrived today finally and all most all of them are dead!!! I have spent the day watching two of them slowly fade into nonexistence

Lovely. A moment in the shade.

I'm seriously depressed. I've been tring everything since Thursday to keep my mind off of it, but I just can't. There's a horse free to an experianced horseperson in the local bulletin board and I wish I could get him, but I can't afford feed for another horse. I have my mustang gelding to feed as it is, but I wish I could afford to get the horse from the bulletin board. The add says that if no one takes him, they'll have him put down. I saw that and started bawling. I went on the site to look for a puppy and there he was again. This time with 4 pics. He's beautiful and I'd hate to see that happen to him, but I just can't afford to get him.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to find under this link, but here he is. http://www.thebulletinboard.com/Search.aspx?category=15000&search=free

I can't help it. I'm a sucker for an animal that needs a good home where it will be loved for the rest of it's life.
WOW he is pretty. Wish I had a farm I could live on.

OK, NOW you've done it. I am officially 70 pages behind because SOME people are Chatty Cathies

I am going to run along now and will be responding to conversations you all had AGES ago, but it was all worth it cause I have the world's cutest puppy

Oh and just for the record... my bator is holding steady at 100* and the humidity is down to 30 and once it gets down to 20-ish I'll add just enough water to keep it hovering right around there.

Quote: Sorry, The guess is for how many chicks total would hatch from all of the participants during the Easter Hatch along....

Those that hatch from the early hatchers on the 5th through the late, late hatchers on the 10th.

Of course everyone needs to report how many chicks they hatch for it to work!

312 posts - no way I'm catching up tonight. I did fill out the participation form on Sunday, so no idea on that one. I wasn't on any of the lists I saw yesterday.

Anyway, just dropping in for this. Today we have 96 hours, Day 4:

Thanks for posting--someone was just asking about todays picture.

Mine try my patience a lot these days. Can I send them away and have them back at 25? JK I love my boys and call them on their behavior. Yes, the same but different.

Quote: I love walking out the kitchen door to chickens running up to me and looking for the horses. One likes to bang her foot on the mesh fence, drumming to get my attention. "More hay please!" I wouldn't like to live any where else. ANd the neighbors haven't complained about the roosters, yet.

Where are you visiting now, Michelle? You just can't stay home, can you? I checked the map, and you are MIA.

i wish i could get a fan but money here is tight and on a strick budget since hubby finally got a job after 2 years on unemployment i hope to have extra money soon so i can get the fans for the incubators i have not had a problem like this before with incubating except this last time and now

Ok I need to change my entry in the participation form. I ended up only setting 24 eggs and not 32 like I put on the form. How do I change that? I'm sure its been on here before but I'm too lazy to search the old posts lol
