First egg hatched today is a little roo from my purple/lav egg project! I'll get clearer pics later but gotta put him in here.

Hi all! This egg was candled Tuesday. (I just got around to uploading it now. How does it look? Good Bad? It sure dosnt look like the egg pics in the candling post in the sticky thread.

You can remove ca, Peachick and WhiteMountainsRanch as they are hatching vicariously through me.. I'm hatching their eggs!!

You can also take off Sparky Crows, as I'm hatching her eggs.

Yea, I'm thinking the ones I saw like the pic above are bad, but I don't know because I have NEVER done this before (hatching and candling!) Should I pitch them?

Never pitch unless you have a reason to take them out, until day 10+. Reasons include weeping, stinking, or discoloration that can be seen through the shell, which I've only seen once in someone else's incubator. If it doesn't have one of those characteristics, it's not a threat, and prematurely pitching it could be a mistake, and thus a loss.

So I had to go buy 5 bales of prairie hay because they were out of everything else, and I spread enough around the insides of the coops to create a clean path, then made a 10'x10' area minimum in each of the runs that was thick hay. Some got a lot more. I tossed down grass seed as well, as it's a perfect time to overseed to make up for the damage they're doing to their beleaguered turf. It's clouded up again after a brief respite and I'm expecting at least one more round...then a day off from rain. Yay!!

And...as I typed this, it got very dark and it's raining slugs and frogs again...

I sold 20 more chickens today. Yep, downsizing here we come.

I'm pretty sure I am under 200 now.

200? I'm calling a halt to the numbers around here. Tld DH all the hatch a long chicks are for sale. Didn't tell him I ordered 8 more SS though.

First candle of my 24/24 detached air cell eggs. Eight gone. Six more maybes, I can only see a small bit of veining, no sign of embryo. The embryos seem to be sitting in the centre of the eggs, away from the shell as I am incubating them all upright. Only two air cells look any way stable, I was hoping to set them on their sides today but that is still out of the question. So I am propping up one side of the incubator then letting it flat again throughout the day. Argh. Every bator I have is auto turning! Will candle again maybe Sunday, am trying hard not to disturb these too much. The Lemon Pyle eggs sufferd the most. Thankfully 6/8 of my pearl partridge are doing ok. I am never buying eggs by post again.
