You are welcome to read along and there are a few actvities that don't require setting eggs. And if you're game, some of us are setting turkeys next. OTherwise I know I'm looking forward to nest years hatch a long.

So I had to go buy 5 bales of prairie hay because they were out of everything else, and I spread enough around the insides of the coops to create a clean path, then made a 10'x10' area minimum in each of the runs that was thick hay. Some got a lot more. I tossed down grass seed as well, as it's a perfect time to overseed to make up for the damage they're doing to their beleaguered turf. It's clouded up again after a brief respite and I'm expecting at least one more round...then a day off from rain. Yay!!

And...as I typed this, it got very dark and it's raining slugs and frogs again...

Dark, dreary and raining again here, too. Calling for a reprieve...... PLEASE ! ! !
I need to get SAND! It is so dang expensive here though.

I spread the grass cuttings in my runs and it helps the new grass to grow in underneath, plus they spread it for me hunting for bugs and munching on the grass. Also a good deodoriser for the ground I find my run gets a bit smelly after a long winter. I do cut the grass once or twice over the winter when I probably shouldn't just for the clippings!

here's another project I have been working on. Converting my old dog houses into chicken houses. These dog houses were older than mud and falling apart.
he boxes are made out of wood from a old pigeon ranch they torn down around the corner from me.
I found out when most of the good wood was gone. But I got enough.
You guys dont laugh at my un-even cuts. Red, blue. green yellow , white.... I put a yellow base coat on it but want to paint it all different colors when summer comes. Still have nest boxes to complete for the last one.

my chickens use them for a toilet a see how much they appreciate all my hard work....

good use for old dog houses. old canvans trucker trap, old fence for ramp, And brand new 2 by 4s for Home depot. May get done someday.... Made 5 of them. That a lot of painting.
I see dog houses on craigslist all the time
