Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

That's right, make me feel bad. I went to high school with a guy that could type 120 on a typewriter. Yes........I know.......I'm old.

AHHH, just a couple of days ago I was telling the "kids" at work about how I took Office Machines when I was in HS. There were only 3 electric typewriters in the room, the rest were manuals. They also taught us how to run a punch card system, a mimeograph (with that lovely smelling purple ink), a dictophone, I can't remember what else. That was before the advent of the 10-key calculator, forget about a pocket calculator.

Now I am REALLY old.

I have an entry for the Egg Art Contest. Two more coming. (I think we can enter 3).

OH! Thank you for reminding me, Kathy!!!

Here is an entry for me. I call these, "Candle Conundrum"

Yep same thing at my school. Took all of that and never used it so lost it. My aunt and I used to use old keypunch cards to make wreaths. LOL

Laree I love the dragon. My husband had dragon everything including tatoos. Very pretty!

When I was about 7, we lived in an old house in East Tennessee that was infested with scorpions. Mama never let me go barefoot and she'd tuck the blankets under the mattress after I went to sleep at night.

...

Laree I hope your bum feels better soon! We get bark scorpions up here but they aren't as toxic as the straw scorpions that I dealt with in AZ. I keep a scorpion flashlight next to the bed since the idea of moving back into scorpion country made me nervous at first. Now I just use it to check on eggs in the bator.

We have always had our occasional scorpions but they are few and far between. My friend though, when he was an infant his mom put the legs of his crib in pots of water to keep the scorpions away from him. She said it was crazy, it was like they were coming from everywhere. ugh, I would have moved a heck of a lot sooner then they did lol.

I was having a dream one night about a year ago that a snake bit me on the arm. Well for some reason I woke up and looked at my arm that there was something black and snake-ish looking (in the dark) heading under my pillow. I jumped up and nearly beat myself to death on my way to the light. Turned it on and yanked my pillow up to see a centipede crawling down the back of my bed. He ended up getting behind my dresser and since my husband was out of town he got away. I slept on the couch for the rest of the week lol. I guess it really didn't bite me or whatever cause I didn't have any marks on my arm. I guess an odd coincidence that I had that dream right then??

I thought that scorpions didn't really exist in downtown Phoenix due to the fact that it was overtop an area that had a lot of pesticide use in the early 50's and 60's.

At least, that's what my godmother told me when I was visiting - probably so I'd sleep.

I can't wait to go back.

You don't believe everything you read on the Internet do ya?

You notice the calendar says, "if you set your eggs early in the morning then THAT is the start of Day 1". No matter what time you set your eggs, that is the start of day 1. Just like an infant, they don't turn 1 until they get to the end of their first year.

In my book (and I think Greenwich mean time will agree with me), 24 hours still equals a day. Of course, I'm not taking into account the periodic time adjustment to adjust fraction seconds.

Anyway, one day after 8:00 am is still going to be 8:00 am tomorrow. So for me (and I assume most people), set day is zero, 24 hours later is day 1. Just the way I do it. Actually I think my incubator runs a tiny bit hot (I haven't calibrated it), my hatches have all started on day 20.

Deb

No I do not believe everything I read on the net for sure and as far as incubating eggs go I always set in the am and call that day 1. the actual hatch day can be 1 day before or 2 days after. Allot has to do with the persons particular incubating habits especially when it comes to temperatures. 1 deg F +or - can and will effect incubation and actual hatch day. So the chart or any chart is based on the "perfect incubating scenario". I am not a professional incubator and would still consider myself an average Joe although I have been hatching and raising chickens for years. I find there is always something new to learn.

Not sure if you were just simply stating the facts as you know them or not. But, it came across to me as you being a little sarcastic and snotty. I re posted that pic that was posted on BYC from another member not to be a jerk but to share it with everyone here. If you took it as an attack it was not meant to be one and I do apologize for the misunderstanding. As I too Hope you wrote this in funny type of response and not just being caddy about it. As I joined this site to learn from others experiences and share some of my own with others who share my passion and hobby of keeping and raising poultry.

What, no gila monsters?

I saw one of those mountain lion warning signs once when I was hiking by myself near Mammoth Lake. It was getting near dusk, but I REALLY wanted to hike in and see one of the small lakes. I had one of my border collies with me on a leash. Of course, looking back she was probably more like bait.

Fortunately, I saw no lions. I don't know if they saw me.
