I love baby bunnies and digging through all the hair in the nest box to see what you got. My son was HUGE into rabbits in 4H, with a herd of around 250 for awhile, yikes. He went through 50# of feed per day.

Rabbit gestation and chicken incubation is so satisfying because you can call the timing so closely.

We're currently waiting on baby crias from three of our alpaca. Their giving birth can range nearly a month to either side of their due date. But two of our girls are huge and they were due this week. I can't wait to see what we get! These are the two that I think will deliver soon (pictured from right before they were shorn last year).

I could easily get up to that number and love every second of it. But finances and the husband simply won't allow it.
This is my first try at incubating chicken eggs and it is really cool on one hand (candling and SEEING the progress) and scary/frustrating on the other hand (perfect hatching conditions/methods, worry, losses). Last spring we let our little Cochin set a few eggs and she hatched out three, It was so cool watching the babies follow mama around.

If I happen to have a broody hen when the chicks hatch, can I sneak some chicks under her at night? That would be SO COOL!

HAHA! Me too! Oh, and all that lovely fiber to spin as well! I only have an acre though so I better get that idea out of my head
(we aren't even supposed to have any livestock per the covenances(sp?) of our property). But chickens and rabbits (and goats next spring) are just pets right.

I don't think I can do a hatch cam this time around- the eggs will be hatching at my son's preschool. I'm not sure if there's internet there. I'll tell you what, my hover chicken mother would be much, much happier if I could look in on them at any time. I'll ask the director if there is internet, and if so, if she'd let me set up a camera. I have a crippled old laptop (it works perfectly, but the case on it is cracked) that I could keep there. I'm going to the school today to water the eggs. I'll ask about it today. The teachers can tell me if there's internet or not, but only the director can give me permission to set up a camera.

I have decided I'm taking the eggs home for spring break- it's 9 days, and I just think it'd be better.

I had two art projects going at once with a first grade. I explained that we needed to wait for our first paper to dry, and in the meantime, we could start cutting out these shapes. It was not long before a hand went up, asking "what is meantime?" I wish I had time to write down all the funny questions they ask, or even better, the overheard conversations! And just for the record, I've never had a tv remote. By the time they came out, I had stopped owning tvs.

Happy Shipped Egg news SCG shipped me 12 eggs 11/12 made it to lockdown 8/11 hatched with TWO MORE pipped that's 10/12 on shipped eggs and I just found out my temp was 3 degrees low the entire time. I just got a Brinsea spot check and calibrated my other thermometers.
