Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

WOW!!!!!!!!

I never realized how many people would be so dedicated to making this thread successful. I confess I don't have much to offer here, or even the time to read all the posts, so usually just have to skip many of the pages and often read only a few or look at pictures.

I have enjoyed some of the humor here, and it is good to see so many willing to offer useful advice and prayers for those asking for it, so just thought I would say so.

Here! Here! and well said.....

Glad to hear from you!

I think there are alot of folks that do the same thing as you! That's okay, too!

I love the group hatch a longs... there's always someone knowledgeable or willing to give support. Better than hatching on your own, hands down. Plus it keeps us entertained for those long weeks!

Oops - I seem to have lost a few of my multis. Apologies to those I have missed.

My sweet Buff Orpington Roo died today

I have hatched so many of his babies and he was so gentle and handsome! I am going to miss him. The other roo in the pen beat him up it seems.
I am so sorry! I am learning how difficult a good roo is to come by.

I am glad you have his babies!

We were talking earlier about the benefit of eliminating dairy when trying to control allergies. I realized if I don't eat yogurt I need a very good source of probiotics. ANd not the stuff I feed my horses please.

A very good probiotic source??
When I went off dairy, I used to eat yogurt every morning for the probiotics. It was fantastic for my immune system, but not so good for all of my other systems. I figured out I was lactose intolerant, stopped eating dairy, and discovered the allergy connection as a complete bonus! It's a bit tougher to find non-dairy probiotic sources. I used miso for a while. Miso is a salty, fermented paste. You eat it by mixing it into soup after you've finished cooking it so that you don't kill the good bits. Some people have a miso broth before each meal. Other non-dairy sources of probiotics are (copied and pasted from here):
  • Sauerkraut (Fermented cabbage)
  • Kimchi (Korean spicy cabbage)
  • Tempeh (Fermented soy food)
  • Soy sauce

So I have 3 broody's that are definately not gonna budge. I keep stealing their eggs from them. I think I'm going to put a couple of my barnyard surprise under the frizzle from my incubator I guess if something happens atleast I can replace those. The orp and australop are going to have to wait we are moving their coop this weekend so maybe if they start up again I will give them some.
