Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

The STRESSSSSSS! my temps are going wonky for last two days 102 to 98. And I was so excited about my icelandics because they always looked the best and had movement. Now I did my last candle tonight and got the bator ready for tomorrow but the icelandics don't look so good. No movement and the blobs are not filling the bottom half. And for sure one of the veins was almost non-existent. Oh and Mahonri has a pip and cheeping!

I'm going to go have a stress cry over my brinsea spot check.

Deb, can you contact the source you got them from??? Very good pics for IDing , by the way!
Probably not, the last time I called him after not getting a response to two emails..........an exact quote was..........."Oh, don't do the email thing."

I don't think he'll remember what he had to match an errant chick in the box, since I got 14 of a breed that I ordered 5 and got none of the third breed I ordered. I just decided to run with whatever I got. He has at least 50 breeds on his available list.

It's a cute chick. If no one knows, I guess I'll find out when it matures.

I've been thinking that it kinda looks like a Black Australorp. I can post pics of my girl when she was a chick if it helps.

With 50 to choose from, you can probably narrow it down by half, that still leaves some 25 possibilities!!

I went nutty trying to figure out what the bonus chick from MM was last year. Looked at almost every chick pic they had, got it down to 2 and then had to wait for HIM to grown up. He's one of our favorites: silver spangled hamburg. A real gentleman. Perky, in charge ( except when the marans are around) and handsome, too.

I turned the eggs, now time for bed, Much to do tomorrow, as in too much.

Probably in the heat of the AZ airport when it was flown it!!

The guesses for first, second and third out is just a tie-breaker.......if you're the only one to guess the number Mahonri hatches correctly, you don't need to match the moneyball the first three hatched!

Probably not, I've had australorps. This chick looks like it will be mottled. Thanks for the thought though.

Deb

Deb, If he has mottled Javas, I'd say it's a good chance that is what it is.....dark legs with yellow on the bottom of the feet.... single comb....

Looky Looky Looky!!!!!
I got 12 eggs in the mail.
2 were broken.
Ten Eggs went through 18 days of incubation.
7 Went in for LOCKDOWN.
I candled, I pulled one clear/bloodring, and one bloodring out. And one more was stuck and i got it off the turner but it was broken a little but it was okay because it died what looked to me at day 3 or 4 of incubation. I'm thinking a hairline crack that I didn't notice.
Heres some pictures of my first time incubating!!

Let me know what cha think!!! :)

Oh my goodness. I did somthing terrible!!! The two eggs I sat out after lockdown were sitting on my dresser, and when I went to go throw them away, I candled one for the heck of it. IT didn't like anything, then I shook it real quick (not like up down everywhere shake, just a little thump type of shake) I felt somthing in the so I put the light back up to it, and IT WAS MOVING AROUND!!!! Even after it settled! I can't believe this. If me letting it sit out of the incubator didn't kill it. Surely the thump did. I don't even know which of the two it was. I just put it in the bator as soon as soon as I could.

Only from pictures--Mottled javas have different colored legs. This one looks like the pictures of Jersey Giants. I think I know the Breeder and He has Black Giants.

Black Giants is my guess and the white will go away at maturity. This does look a bit like my Black Australorps, but the feet and beak are wrong. Also BAs have more yellow to them instead of white as chicks on the body.

Ron

I bought a group of lakenvelder chicks a couple of weeks ago and there was one chick in the batch that was obviously different. The markings were very similar, but this chick was different. It was blacker, where lakenvelder chicks are more dark gray. As it got older, the differences became more obvious. It was starting to look more like a penguin.

So what is it? I know this should probably be on the "what am I forum", but this is practically the only thread I come to anymore and this is where everyone hangs out. I'm guessing maybe an ancona, but the breeder only lists RC. Mottled java? They do list them, but it looks too dark when I compare to pictures on feathersite.

The legs and feet are mottled, fairly bright yellow on the bottoms of the feet.

The chick is about two weeks old.
