Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Kathy, you are keeping those cute emu babies aren't you? I had no idea what kind of personalities they had. And, looove the area you live in. I was born in Kansas City MO. Moved when I was three, so don't remember much. But, my father stayed there after my mother and he divorced. So I had a chance to go back there again a couple of times before he passed. It was pretty where he lived too.
And...you are quite the artist!! I can draw stick people.

TOTALS........................................ 23 in the can, 51 remain. -10 41 remain

Every egg in the Brinsea that was there at first candle remains. All 10 that were bad were in the hovabator... Also the one pipped egg, an Icelandic from the Audin was in the Hovabator.

I'm guessing that my temps were too high... the air cells were pretty huge.

So I'll be lucky if I hatch 20. Just enough to put under my broody!

BTW... I've never heard of a pip on day 17, so I'm guessing NotAFarm/Mary sent me at least one egg that had already started to develop! I didn't get them until Friday Noon and they didn't go into the bator until Saturday Morning... (Noon somewhere... just not here

)

Oh, and we could hear the pipped one chirping and at least one more that had internal pipped when we were candlng... another Audin Icelandic. All but one of the Drekki eggs are in the Brinsea.

Also, 2 of the 4 WMR eggs were iffy. I can't win for loosing with those eggs.

That's exactly what I thought!!

I bought a group of lakenvelder chicks a couple of weeks ago and there was one chick in the batch that was obviously different. The markings were very similar, but this chick was different. It was blacker, where lakenvelder chicks are more dark gray. As it got older, the differences became more obvious. It was starting to look more like a penguin.

So what is it? I know this should probably be on the "what am I forum", but this is practically the only thread I come to anymore and this is where everyone hangs out. I'm guessing maybe an ancona, but the breeder only lists RC. Mottled java? They do list them, but it looks too dark when I compare to pictures on feathersite.
Deb, can you contact the source you got them from??? Very good pics for IDing , by the way!

Yikes, now I wish I could remember my guess for the hatching count !! I do remember #1 and #3 being Icelandics though !!

I spot candled a few of the ones that I had marked "good" a week ago. None of them look dark like the pic Cynthia posted. I bet none of mine hatch. I'm not giving up on them, just losing hope that I will hatch any fuzzy butts.

Stop that right now! Don't give up. Think positive! Ya here me?

Let yourself look forward to hatch day. Can't hurt.

This is what we all do until the first one hatches.

I must confess....... I did not do the art work myself. One of my helpers did it for me. She is a sweetheart! When she saw this contest she said, "Ohhhh, please let me do this for you." I couldn't refuse! I don't have an artistic bone in my body!
