Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I did my final candling last night so that I could just move the eggs to lockdown this morning. It's a pain to have to carry everything into the hall bath (only room without HUGE windows and we own no curtains).

My shipped swap eggs -
1 Langshan - pulled
1 Ameraucana - 1 good
5 Iowa Blues - pulled 3, 2 good
12 Icelandic - pulled 4, 4 good Audin pen, 4 good B pen (forget the roosters name)
So 11 out of 19 shipped eggs are going into lockdown

My own eggs -
11 Campine - 11 good
4 Welsummer - 4 good
3 EE - pulled 1, 2 good
12 Welsummer x ? mixes - pulled 1, 11 good
So 28 out of 30 eggs are going into lockdown

This gives me a total lockdown of 39 out of 49 eggs................okay babies, hatch!!!!

On a side note, I was also testing some local lakenvelder eggs where the breeder was having problems with one rooster. Problem pen, 16 out of 16 clear, pen 2, 11 out of 15 look good. These eggs will lockdown on Easter.

Could you ask her if she would be willing to do something on commission? I really like her work

x2! A picture of Gerrymander on one of her goose eggs would be such a cool keepsake of her... Could you pm any information?

So far 11/12 eggs have hatched at my son's kindergarten class! One more egg to go, no pip but there's still time. I'll be picking the chicks up today at the end of class. The teacher was shocked to see that so many chicks hatched. Apparently she's tried many times over the years to do classroom hatches and never got a single chick. I think it helped to incubate them at home most of the 21 days...less temp fluctuations.

Trisha-- 11/12 is fantastic!! THe kids must be thrilled to see and hear little peeps!!

I set a day late, so I lock down tomorrow. Which means I will have REAL Easter hatchlings. Neener neener neener.
I don't think I could wait until Sunday! I'm looking every 2-3 hours hoping to hear a peep from a pip!! My anxiety is rising . . . . at least I have a good reason not to go to MIL for Easter this year!! Love my MIL, hate the traveling and worrying about hatchlings!

I did the final candle and locked down late last night. Well, I did turn them this morning but I knew I wouldn't have time to do all the rest before work.
Let's see if I can post my spreadsheet:

OMG!!!

I'm in serious trouble! Can I use my Sportsman as a hatcher? I had so much going on the past 2 days that I hadn't cleaned the hatcher and still had eggs sitting in it from the 31st. I went in to toss the eggs and quickly clean it out and I heard peeping. I did check it yesterday, but then had to leave. I snatched the chick out thinking it would probably be deformed or weak, but it's perfect! Sitting on my lap right now, all dry and frisky. I've had late hatchs before, but didn't expect this to happen since the 110 spike. Any I grabbed it out and I hear faint peeping. BTW this one is from the purle egg project!

So the only thing I have at the moment is the sportman with enough room. I guess if they hatch fast (yeah 4-5 days late) I can clean it out and start lockdown later today, but just on case...........

I have 5 hatches after this one and I don't want to jealordize any. Can I do a staggered hatch in there for this hatch?????? My Sportsman is old and didn't come with the humidity pan, so I have a plastic container in there. How much water should I add?

OMG I'm excited and stressed all at once.

I am in lock down!!

Real lock down time is at 2 this afternoon but I have to give a class in wire wrap jewelry at one so have to do it now. I don't have my egg washing tray yet so cut down some foam cartons and put a partition in because I have my sister in law Pat's eggs in there too. I don't want to mix us up.

hope it works. I couldn't see through any of them but her white egg and it was moving so I just left everything in. Hope no stickers explode. No smell coming from the bator so don't know?????

That paper thing is the top of a doz and a half egg carton kinda flatened out and taped to one wall. The other side is wire mesh. If feels pretty sturdy so hop it works if not I will yank it out and take the peeps out as they hatch and put them under lights.
