Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

This feels... suspiciously just like being about 39 weeks pregnant :) Not quite "due" but IT COULD TOTALLY HAPPEN! (Having gone into labor before 39 weeks, between 39-40 weeks, and most recently 41 weeks on the nose.. I'm an expert at obsessing over labor signs!)

Never made it past 37 weeks, and that was tooooo long. And I had to tell the nurse to catch both times...docs running in with gowns hanging from elbows...why don't they ever believe the fat lady?

And I have 22 hatched with five pipped and believe it or not, I think that is going to be the end of my hatch.

One of the four pipped is a Peachick sumatra!
Another one is a Renee, small dark layer. (so all I'm hatching from her eggs is two...

)
Another is a sulmtaler, #4 is a Drekki Icelandic and the last is a large Audin Icelandic.

Makes me feel badly about the brinsea... sad, but the hovabator and all it's high temps did better!

You are an impatient man. They are doing what they're supposed to do, not wearing stopwatches! The little ones you've hatched are always the first to go in my incubators. Give them time.

Mahonri - I use the Brinsea and find it is NEVER early. Temps and humidity are deadly accurate in that thing. Chicks start to hatch at 21 days - to the hour. So you are still a day early to expect anything out of the Brinsea.

What she said!

I have a pip ! ! TWO, actually! Woooo Hoooo, here we go!

Yaaaaay!! And I got the eggs from HappyChooks- she sent a special one for you! Its momma was a massive girl from you?

Even if they pip at the pointed end which is facing down?

I pull these and lay them down, pip up. put a hot wet paper towel in when you do it and your humidity will recover right away.

There used to be a mean little boy that lived here in the court . 5 years old or so. Many times I caught him throwing rocks at my stallion. Went down to his mother and asked her to keep him home and the reason why ( He was throwing rocks at my horses.) Her reply was not my little boy he wouldn't beside he never goes down there. OK I thought.
I I had put a hot wire about 18 inch off the ground around the bottom of the fence to keep dogs out of pen. I saw the little monster out by the pen. He was in that man stand of going to go pee. I stayed in the house and watched him pee on the hot wire. He let out a scream took off running and crying like someone killed him. I about dead laughing. His mother was down here in minutes madder than an hornet. I am still laughing. I just replied your son does come down here....

WOW. Why do you let that brat come over? I feel bad saying it because its the parents fault but he really sounds awful. At 3 he should definitely know better. I'm kinda childish and mean sometimes, but if he peed on my truck, I'd pee on him! Ok...I don't know if I'd go that far, but I'd think about it really hard. It makes me angry just reading that. Its not normal to be so cruel to animals and his parents allowing it desensitizes him to cruelty.

I have 3 pips!!! 1 Araucana and 2 Nankin!

By the way, I locked down on Weds. night: 11 of 16 Araucanas, 8 of 9 Nankin and 2 of 3 pheasant (which won't hatch untill Mon. or Tues.)

So 21 of 28 isn't too bad, considering they're all shipped eggs except the pheasant, and those were the very first 3 laid this year!

I have two chicks out both from Cal. white eggs and I have 9 pips and one zipping. Total of 24 eggs I set for the hatchalong but added two more the next day so there are 26 in there at the moment!!! YAY CHICKIES!!!

All EO's. So far nothing on the 2 araucana, 2 BC Marans or 4 B/B/S Orps that made it to lockdown
