I don't care how cold it is outside..... I am not keeping chickens in my house! However, I will put them in the storage garage. There is electricity there and I just hook up a heat lamp.

Someday... it's gotta happen....
It took awhille to catch up tonight.
Been a pretty good day, got some things said [about an opinion of mine] on another thread without getting mysel banned, went outside to discover I needed a winter hat and gloves today
, and gathered "the egg" as I fed and watered. "The egg" meant that either my one and only pullet that is starting to lay has broken the every-other-day routine, or the other Black Orp got started; and it was in the nest box instead of the run.............................. progress! I've got 50 some others of various breeds, and all within a month either way of being the same age, that are still gold bricking, so hoping that they get started too. My same hatch Lav Orp started in Dec, the day before I moved here, but shut down three days after moving them. "The egg" is fertile, which means my blue laced red project large fowl Cornish is doing his duty; and my other large fowl Cornish cockerals and Silver Ameraucanas have been seen getting busy also, but with pullets that have not produced an egg since they were moved. Of couse the Black Orps are the only pullets I'm not wanting to hatch chicks from............................... but there's one in the bator anyway.
If you can't set what you want, set what you have, right?![]()
I hear ya! My layers coop has about 40 layers in it, and they are shelling out the eggs. My breeder pens, that I want to hatch from, are producing poorly. I'm lucky if I get a dozen eggs a day (that I want to hatch). My Icelandics are my top producers. I get at least a dozen eggs a day from that pen.
I love that and how the snowy mountains glow all around us.Doesn't it!! It's as bright as daylight and the shadows the trees cast are such a constrast on the bright white snow.....it's art!
We've had the cats on a diet - and they are doing their absolute best to drive me mad(der). This morning they started at 2 AM, running around, whining, even growling. So I kick them out of the bedroom and shut the door, get to almost asleep then they start pushing at the door so it bumps in its frame, then they scratch at it and whine. So I open up the door, chase them off, and go back to bed. Then they're back in the room fighting with each other, and whining. They also use the place next to my head to springboard up onto the headboard, then they jump right back down inches from my head. I finally get up around 4 and feed them their breakfast, think everything's ok, then around 530 they start again.... and I've got to be up in 2 hours to go to work.
I dislike it when sleep escapes me.
Went out back and checked on my GHD chicks. One of my Ameraucana chicks is not thriving. Smaller than all the rest... droopy little wings. Wish it would grow.
... but the rest seem to be doing well and they certainly are little pooping machines.
