Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I do all sorts of stuff 'wrong' when I hatch and I generally get great hatch rates - I open my incubator and candle/sniff at least twice , do dry hatches until lockdown and I (GASP!) will open the incubator when there's about 10 dry chicks to get the fluffers out. My brinsea is too crowded after about 10 little ones hatch and the rest hatch just fine.

I also occasionally will help one out like I did today when I had a mega chick that pipped on the wrong end - it was my fault it was like that most likely as I cracked the egg before I set it. So it was sealed up with scotch tape.. and it still hatched, with a lil help. :p

Probably depends on the bator too - my brinsea holds and gets back up to proper temp and humidity very quickly. I'd probably be more careful in a styrobator.

Hint ## If you get eggs that has ends that are somewhat similar and you can't be sure which end is the air-cell end, candle to see which end is correct. Sometimes they are not what you'd guess. If the egg is particularly fresh and you still can't tell due to lack of air-cell altogether, set the egg on its side when you set them and wait a couple of days: there will be a darker hue and the air-cell will be defined. Now put the right side up!
