Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

And they'll be close enough to trade later! LOL

Yes! We are supposed to populate the chicken keeping world with these!

If we did this with more rare and heritage breeds instead of trying to make a huge profit off of them as the current "breed to have" We would have less rare chickens. I will treat these the same as I would sell and trade my Australorps.

James is doing a great and wonderful thing with the EO Basque Hens.

Good afternoon ya'll!

Very nice Brahmas Kathy! :drool Can you put me on the list, when they have start laying. Pretty please?

We are suppose to have a storm too, up to 5 inches or so of snow, but do you think that there is any sign of storm clouds? -

I'm always so envious when ever anyone posts pictures of GREEN. It's so beautiful. I miss green.

Those are on my list to get also!

I have Swedish Flower Hens and Chinese Langshans in the incubator now. I love the idea of having the old, old breeds, doing what they should be doing. Laying eggs and gracing the dinner table

.

We also are planning on a few breeds that I just plain like.

I have arranged to have 15 EO Basque eggs delivered on March 16th. They are from Skyline in Tennessee and I am in California. Google says about 2300 miles.

These are rare in the US. There are some in Canada. They are even not too common in Spain.

They should be great chickens.

Well good morning (afternoon really) everyone! I'm all caught up on the posts. I guess I'll be carrying out today the same as yesterday. I didn't go to sleep until after 2 last night because I finally got to borrow a game I've been wanting to play more of from my friend.

Right now though I have to go check on my hen that has scaly leg mites. (this is the same hen that suddenly appeared in my yard a few weeks ago and no one has claimed her.)

I think so too!

I have 60 SG Dorking eggs in my incubator. I am hatching them for a fellow BYCer. I traveled to her place on Saturday and brought them home. My family thinks I am crazy to do this, but I told them that I was helping to preserve an ancient and rare breed of Chickens

. I won't be keeping these and it is great practice. I will be keeping some of the EO Basque hens though and I do have some SG Dorkings from a McMurray order(Sadly we have to re order since 8 out of 22 of them died).

I have been looking recently for breeders of SG Dorkings and there are very few of them left. It seems everyone is breeding colored Dorkings now.

Well hi for the day, folks. Am mega busy over the next couple of days, so will do my best to keep up.

Am just wondering if anyone is setting anything really special this hatch? Who has eggs travelling the longest distance?
Really special to me.....Blue Isbar eggs from The Sheriff in Cally.forn.eea.........and silkies from cjexotic in PA (these are not for keeping but to sell as a 4-H fundraiser at a Poultry Workshop) and some Icelandics from my own flock and possibly some from another source
