Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Quote:
OK. I have a pen open. I will put the F1s in it tonight.

It will be awhile for those (pure Barred Rocks). I have quite a few orders to fill, but I will get some to you sometime, if you don't mind waiting.

Woohoo!!

Hope you are feeling better!!!! Can't sleep around here--miss too much! Can't lose internet connection either! LOL

Yeah- had a spasming neck and looked like Igor, with childbirth-like cramping in my left side. It's over now and I'm delighted!!

Wait until you look out and it looks like this:

I'm glad that's your contorted hazelnut and not mine...we've had a scant 1" of snow this year...with something like 40" last year in January and February alone...A little weird!

This is great! Definitely worth the effort. I think I will taunt my DH with this later...

He gets nervous whenever I talk about the upcoming hatch because we are looking at about twice as many eggs (and chicks!) as last year's Easter Hatch. And then they live in the bathroom for four weeks...

That sounds like a very nice birthday evening for your mom! Drink a lot of water and take a B-complex. It's best if you do this before bed but will help at anytime.
And it's a fantastic excuse to take it easy today and relax if you can!

I set 130+ eggs in my FarmGirl NQB8R yesterday, with the hopes that I'll have all of them out of there to hatch in my LGs...My first hatch in there went well, so I'm feeling confident!

Sarah, when that happens again, load up on protein before going to sleep, as it will break down and 'soak-up' the mess...long explanation, but trust me, it decreases likelihood of a hangover.

Ok, I'm marking my spot prior to heading out to put the birds away. The KU/Mizzou showdown is in overtime, which is entirely appropriate for the very last game they'll ever play together. Oy!!

Turkeys are easier to process, but harder to kill. One almost took shane out once, hence his rule that he have two helpers. A big tom clawed him across the throat, and I think it scared him a little.

Would scare me too!! AN out of control turkey is frightful, esp if sharp instrument is also of concern. We have a processor that will do the deed for $10 a turkey.

How do you defeather the beasts?

We have a new contest for week three!!

Crazypetlady's Poultry Short Story Contest WEEK THREE CONTEST
Write a less than 500 word short story regarding and starring poultry. You must include a picture or a drawing of one, some or all of the characters. Post your short story on the hatching thread and PM it to crazypetlady between 31 March and 6 April. A BYC poll will be made with the entries for voting. This contest is open to hatchers and non-hatchers, alike.
Prize: 6+ serama hatching eggs courtesy of crazypetlady!

Hopefully you guys have found at least one contest and prize that interests you. :) Thanks again to everyone offering prizes and sponsoring contests.

Yet another for me to enter. I want seramas sssooooo bad. Again, my dad will want to kill, but he says that if they make money one way or another, then he doesn't mind how many breeds we end up with.

... and I'm back. All of the lawns mowed, Grow out pens cleaned... got 10 eggs out of 15 today. Not bad, but not a fertile one in the bunch. No roos. Watered all of the grass... DIDN'T get the pool cleaned... perhaps next weekend. We are only a month away from swimming weather. It hit 84 today.

I've decided that the reason my HUGE SLW that I hatched from Kathy's eggs can't lay eggs is because she's stopped up in the behind. She'll get in the nest box and strain and strain but an egg never makes it out.

I've yet to see a hen survive that problem... and she is so beautiful.
