Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I was so worried that they wouldn't develop after being unplugged for who knows how long. Next week I hope to move our newest hen (the one that showed up in the yard) out with the RIRs. She had leg mites but the scales on her feet still don't look normal. I need to move her so that the chicks from my last hatch can go in the cage we have her in and I can clean out the brooder.

how did you treat her legs?? can I see a pic of her legs??

they are under a normal heat lamp. Getting a red one tomorrow. Hopefully that helps! I'm so sad, I think its my favorite baby of all doing the "unmentionable!" think its a roo, barred cochin standard

yep that's what I thought, they need to have a red light so they will not pick on the other chicks. what kind of food are you giving them??? what is the % in the food??

This thread never sleeps!! there is always someone on here lol

any ways, a red heat lamp is good to have, it does not stimulate them as much as white light, so they wont be running around and pecking each other. The red glow of the lamp helps calm them down, giving them enough light to see, but not enough to make them crazy Good luck

If the red heat lamp doesn't help, you might isolate the one you think is causing the problem for a few days. He should loose his place in the "pecking" order. (I know, bad pun!) Good Luck.
